Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago by my Gynocologist. I am on Glucophage (500mg)/day. I did the low carb diet last year and lost 75 pounds in about a year. I weighed 240 before. Now I am about 185. I got married in February of this year. With wedding, honeymoon, and living with a high carber, I gained some back. My sister n law is on Adipex, it seems to have helped her. She bought it online (which I wouldn't do) and she lost about 20 pounds. I take Paxil, Glucophage, weightsmart vitamin, Yasmin and sometimes a B-complex. I am stuck now because I lost on the low carb (my own version) and now I started again with walking and NO LUCK!! I eat 20-30 carbs like before. HELP!! I want to see about the Adipex or Phentermine? Any help would be appreciated.
Congratulations on all that weight loss! I'm kind of in the same boat right now, I lost a lot of weight before I got pregnant w/ my daughter, and then I put quite a bit back on during pregnancy. So now I'm working on it again.
Just wondering if you will are working up to a bigger dose of met? My doc wanted me on at least 1500 mg. I saw some results before I got up to 1500 but it was 1500 that worked best for me.
Many cysters here follow the IR diet. You may want to check out the diet/exercise forum here.
I'm glad you're here, best wishes on your weight loss. Keep up the good work!
Hugs
Jenny

Thanks MommyJenny74. I started out on 1000mg of met. I got sick at my stomach, dizzy and light headed. My PCOS is not extreme from what my doctor says. She tested my thyroid and I am borderline hypothyroidism. Apparently not enough for meds. So she did bloodwork and discovered I have PCOS. Classic symptoms. I had a recent visit with her and asked about the low carb and trying to go off of met. She said not quite yet and I just need to keep up the low carb, which helps PCOS, and start taking 1000 met. I forget so much except for the night pill and I haven't seen that it has helped even when I took 1000.
hey hon! the only other thing i can suggest i trying a slightly different diet to make your body work in a different way - also try differnent exercise areobics or the aquarobics (which is so good for you) in a class could be good fun as well as a great excersice xx

Kamilee,
I found that starting out at 500 mg met and then working up helped lower the side effects. Also taking the met right in the middle of my meal helped.
Great job with the low-carbing! Keep it up!
Sorry I don't know anything about the Adipex! Maybe the ladies at the medications forum could help, I'll bet someone around here has taken it and can give you some info or advice.
Hugs cyster

My DH who has Type II takes his all at once at night but during dinner. He had some stomach trouble and it took some adjustment - he had to work up to his prescribed dosage.
I've never heard of the other drug but do know that many people lose on Met and low-carbs.

I am sorry, I haven't heard of adipex. Congrats on the weight loss. Your body could be just trying to adjust to the weight loss. You may just be on a plateau. I lost 40 pounds last year on the diabetic exchanges and haven't lost anything this year. I think I am on a plateau, plus I haven't exercised much since this past early summer because of everything going on. I plan on starting my exercise again soon. Sometimes, If you just try and change things up a bit, it will get the weight dropping off again. Good luck and I hope this helps...

Kamilee,
I know exactly how you feel. I too lost about 70 lbs three years ago doing low carb. I gained 20 back with my pregnancy. My son is now 2 years old and I am still holding on to those lbs. I seem to lose and gain back the same 3 and 4lbs. I have tried to alter my diet a few times but I guess I'm afraid to do so too much, thinking that I may actually end up gaining more than losing since I cut out so many things in the beginning of my low carb lifestyle. Anyway, I tried the Phentermine in July, only lost 5 lbs and I have some that I take now. I don't know why because they really aren't helping me to lose anything. Some say they work well for them but they do almost nothing for me. Everyone's body is truly different. So, I can only give you my experience with the drug and wish you the best on your decisions.
