This is my first post. I have been diagnosed with pcos. I have been married for three years and have tried to get preganant to no avail. My periods are all over the place. Can't predict ovulation. My husband is patient. I am frustrated.
Metformin is making me sick and my periods are never ending.... my period will not stop help!
Started Metformin October 10, 2005------
1 500 mg 1 time a day for 1 week
2 500 mg 1 time a day for 1 week
etc...

My Mood: Points: 67,865.37 Bank: 589,375.12 Total Points: 657,240.49 | I saw a GYN specialist who said I didn't have pcos (after being dx'd twice) and told me he would give me a scrip for met to "prove it". He infomred me that since my glucose was normal, I was fine and if the met made me sick, he was right. He gave me a scrip for 1500 mg daily of generic metformin and never told me to work up to the full dose. I took the 1500mg for a week and was so sick I couldn't leave the house. Well, I complained to the clinic (i go to a military clinic) and they gave me a referrel to an RE again. The RE prescribed an extended version of met and explained that I need to take 500 the first week and then add in 500 each week after to 1500. So... it was much much better! I did have some side effects in the beginning but I am not nearly as sick as I was on the generic met.
I haven't had any blocked tubes I just rarely ovulate. I have taken Clomid and Femara, 12 rounds altogether and only ovulated once Both of my kids were conceived naturally. We are not currently doing medicated cycles, waiting for it to "just happen" again. We may try injectables in Nov or December though.

I notice you've only been on met a very short time. I think you should give it a bit longer to see if it will work!!
Hang in there. |

Points: 83.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 83.00 | THANKS PAMELA,
I AM TRYING TO HANG IN THERE. I am taking 2 a day now for a week and then I will increase each week to 4 per day I am taking the ER pills. I don't know what the difference is. I have a peach fuzz mustache. I have hair growing under my chin, not a lot though and I have started to shave it. My doctor says that I have dark skin coloration around my neck which is also one of the signs of PCOS. Does anyone have any diet advice while taking met. I am finding that when I take it at night it works better for me.

I also found that taking my met at the same time everyday is helpful!!
Take a look at the metformin and diet forums!!! |
