Talking PCOS and Metformin

Hello There

I am Newish to this website, and I was told a few weeks back that i had PCOS, even through i knew already, With no periods (approx 1yr +) - Weight gain - Hair growth on face, through research, it still felt upset and angry.
I have been on Metformin- 500 for 3 days, first day i felt light headed but think it was down the Paintin i was as well, but i ate 3 small meals, (breakie-dinner-and Tea) and no inbetween snackin which i was chuffed about, and felt ok after and kept to the 3 meals, and only had 1 treat which was a baby kitkat. I kinds, started a Low GI diet last week and i have lost 6 pounds =) I have has little Cramps here and there but not too bad, and i'm hoping the weight loss keeps coming off.

I was wondering how long it would take before i start having periods on Metfromin?
Does Metfromin really work well for weight loss/Hair removal aswell?
If you do fall pregnant, Should yoou stop taking Met, or continue through Pregnancy? What works well.

Would love to hear from you

the only thing i can say as far as to the met. working or not it really depends on your body.
everyone is different i know some who have taken the metformin and it worked great and other who needed a little more help.
it also depends some doctors pres. the metformin through the first 3 months while others will take it there entire preg. it again just depends on the person as well as the doctor taking care of you...

sorry i cant be of more help,
steph

Thumbs up Newbie

hie all,

im new to this site, bumped into it while researching on metformin etc. im so happy to have cysters who can relate. thank you all. my question here is as follows:

i have been having my normal AF since i started, always regular, and i have been recently diagnosed with PCOS. my Dr put me on met and have been on it for 4wks now, 1500mg which i started on saturday. as i write im in bed feeling terrible coz of the change in dosage. the thing is my hubby was told he had low sperm motility and we have been struggling to get pg... has anyone had this situation and success at the end? double whammy for me and DH. im very sad about it but remain positive. im hoping all the planning will work out this month..

Hi Candy UK! My husband was told the same thing and was started on Clomid. It was a low dose taken everyday. Unfortunatly he became mega male and was getting unruley so we stopped it but my point is that there are things that can be done. Research it. There are over the counter herbs that increase mobility. Of course talk to your doctor first but there are many things including wearing boxers instead of breifs! Good Luck!

there are over the counter herbs you can take such as ginsing, and a few others. there is a over the counter drug that worked great for my friends husband. in three months it doubled his sperm count. the drug is called
"the fertility blend" just type that into google and you can order it online.
also type in " natural male fertility treatments. it will give some some web site's to look into. Also keep in mind the fertility blend does take about 3 months to work. He should also switch to boxers and get off excessive amounts of caffine. As well as eat a diet high in protein.

i hope this is some help,
steph

Hi Candy. I know another couple in your situation and wife only got preg when hubby was taking zinc. There was many years between the kids even though they were trying. Started zinc again and bam!! That was how they made the connection. Good luck to you.

Hi Guys, Hows it going? thankful its the weekend =)

Well Day 8 on Metformin, i am moving up to 2 tables a day for 7 days. Its been ok, i lost 6 pounds in first 3 days, then i gained it back, which i have no idea, as i have 3 smalls meals each day and treated twice over 7 days with a kit kat (107 cals), checked my weight today and lost 3 pounds, i keep telling myself its early days, and results dont happen over night, the metformin has kinda killed my hunger, which i like, just wish the weight would go too HaHaHa.

I have suffered a little with feeling light headed, cramps, (and had the runs a few times). But its been ok =). I am taking it slow with Metformin, moving upwards to the full dose.

if u want to get in touch, ad698@yahoo.co.uk or leave a message thanks
