Hi everyone well im new to soulcysters and im excited to be here. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003 when I was trying to get pregnant and not able too. I hardly ever have my menstal cycle maybe 2 times a year and when I do I think I need to go the hospital cause I loose so much blood. Anyway I have gained 80 pounds since 2001 before I even knew I had PCOS and I have tryed to lose it and have had such a hard time. The carb diet really is not for me I tryed it but I really felt unhealthy doing it I still need my carbs maybe not so much. I have been doing lots of research on Metformin and PCOS and have seen some great things it can do. I went to the Dr last week and he thinks it will really help me with the weight and the getting pregnant part. I have the perscription im just waiting for him to get my labs back and give me the thumbs up. I will be taking 500mg two times a day. Im so excited even though I know there might be some side affects. I feel so tired and in a fog all the time very unmotivated and its so opposit to how I used to be before I had PCOS. I really hope this helps me and Im going to eat better and work out as well with it (I hope) LOL so wish me luck and I hope to meet and hear things from some of you
When I was first diagnosed with PCOS my dr put me on metformin. It was probably the best thing for me. I've been on it for over a year now and it works awesome for me. We are trying to get pregnant now. GL with everything!
Your story sounds exactly like mine. I was diagnosed in 2005 after having very irregular cycles and severe pain, not to mention the 50+ pounds I have put on. I have just recently been put on Metformin 500mg and have been reading all about everyone with their success on getting pg.The side effects didn't really bother me that much, thank god! I wish you luck and hopefully we can both have our little ones!
So I have been on metformin for a month and a half 1000 mg two times a day and no change I read lots of storys where people lose weight get pregnant there body goes back to normal so to speak and nothing for me :/ its kind of depressing so anyway pray for me and wish me luck. I know its not been very long but I wanted to see somthing by now.
I've been on 2000g/day for just over a year now. I lost about 20lbs in the first 5 months and then stabalized. We're TTC now and just the metformin wasn't enough to give me regular ovulations, but I do feel a whole lot better now that the side effects have basically gone away. The first couple of months were HORRIBLE, but now I just have the occasional problem if I don't time my eating correctly.
I'm slowly losing lbs by going to the gym now and feel better than ever. I think the metformin and the realization that if i don't start fixing things now it will only get worse have really helped motivate me to change things for myself.
Hey all! This is my first post to this website at all, since I Just joined this morning. I am hoping this will help me.. I have been so depressed. I saw the metformin post and I wanted to speak for a bit on this. I was on metformin about 5 years ago when I was first really diagnosed with PCOS and after about a month I saw results with the return of my periods... They came every month while I was on the medicene. I took 500mg 3 times a day. It worked so well that after a few months they put me on the extended release caplets. I was not trying to get pregnant at this time tho. I went off the pills for quite a while due to alot of monetary and personal issues. I have recently started back up on the metformin again, but only 500mg 2 times a day. I have been it for just over 2 months and am getting discouraged because I havent seen any results. I am trying to stay positive because I have personal experience that the medicene can work! I go back to the doctor in a little over a week and I will see what he says about upping the dosage. I just wanted to say Hi to all and say I do know the medicene can work.. so dont get discouraged and keep at it!!
