Default PCOS and Metformin:How long before you started losing weight?

For the rest of you girls who are as blessed as me to have PCOS, =( and went on MetFormin, how long did it take you to start losing weight, how much did you lose, and what dosage did they start you on, how much overweight were you?
Sorry for all the questions but I got diagnosed a couple weeks ago and got my prescription for MetFormin today... I just wanted to know how all of you guys benefited from the medicine!!

THanks girls!!

Rach

I never lost any weight on metformin and I have been taking it for a year or so. I have lost 15 pounds but that was by excercising and changing my eating habits. I guess I was not one of the lucky ones! Darn!

I guess I weighed about 168 to 172 when I was first put on met. and that is how much I still weighed up until 2 months ago when I got sick of being curvy and changed my lifestyle.

Met. did not make me O on my own, but it did help regulate my cycles a bit.

I am taking 500mg three times a day.

Cool 2-3 weeks now on Met

I've been taking metformin for about 2-3 weeks now...and even though my moods seem to even out a little better...I still haven't had my cycle nor do I look like I'm losing any weight. My doc said that also taking the normal dose *that I have been taking a month before starting met* of of Metabolife (Ephedra free) 2 pills a day in the morning or whenever I get up...is also perfectly safe. Said that it'd probably benefit me more than with just the met alone. Who knows. I still continue to get the damn stretch marks...plaguing me every day. Even though I don't eat all that much, and I have slowed down majorly on my all-day snacking habit. I have also tried to get in atleast 1-2 hours of walking a day. My puppy is also a good companion for trips like that. She's got sooo much energy and she keeps me moving all the time. Usually to pry something nasty out of her mouth that she's trying to run off with and eat. Yuck!! I'll keep a ticker updated when I know my current weight...right now I have no idea. Lol. Whoops! I just realized that I don't have a weight ticker at the moment. Duh!! The one that's posted now is my cycle one..ttc....and still haven't had a cycle yet. Maybe this's my chance! *crosses fingers and prays for some baby dust* :p

I lost 6 pounds in the first month, then it kind of plateaued for a couple of months. Then I got off my backside & started exercising and I've lost an additional 5 pounds. I'd like to see another 20 fall away.

I have been on met i.5 years. I still don't have AF at all (same as before). I never have. I take provera to induce it. I lost 30 pounds in 8 months or so without exercising. I put 10 back on and am now at the gym. Met helped me initailly losse weight but I still get side efffects. Cant seem to loose the belly.

I've been on Met for 10 months. I've lost some weight...not much so it wasnt down to Met. I have been having regular enough (24-33 days) cycles since last July. I'm not sure if I have O's since I'm not ttc....but I think it might be a good idea to check my temps just to see if I do O! I started on 1500mg and that was upped to 1700mgs in December. The last time I was at my doc in November my testosterone levels hadn't changed at all. I am hoping I will get put up to 2000mgs a day in May to see if that helps.

I have lost about 13 lbs. I started 1000mg Met on Nov 24... upped it to 1500mg on Jan 12th. I have been exercising more, and watching my carbs since sugar really sticks to my butt! This has been a really slow 13 lbs, but at least I'm not gaining every month like I used to! Also, I still, after all this time, have s/e and running to the bathroom. So I blame some of the weight loss on that, even though I don't know what exactly is doing it for me. Best of luck!

When I started taking Met I was in about a size 22 at 5'1'' within 2 years I lost down to a size 4. It really helped me, my cycles were regular, etc. It only made me have a period though, it never made me ovulate. I just recently had a little girl and I gain a lot of weight from the pregnancy, now in a size 16 and it doesn't seem to really help with this weight loss, but I think this is just from pregnancy and it isn't going to work like it did the first time. Good luck!

My first month on met I lost 25 pounds. The 2nd month I lost another 20 pounds. It was fast and then it stopped. I am not IR and my GP said that if I cut out sugar, I'd loose more weight. My cycles have always been monthly. I have LPD which makes my have progesterone issues. I have dry skin, hair loss and acne all of which met helped clear up.

Default Something is working

I am 32 years old, married to greatest man on the planet and have a wonderfull 6 year old son (Adopted)

When the Dr told me she was putting me back on Metformine i through a fit. (I had tried it a few years ago and quite because i so sick all of the time.) But i gave in knowing that something in my life had to change for my health and my familly.

I started taking Met + Yasmine in Dec. Started Weight Watchers on January 13 as of last Thursday I have lost 27lbs. I purchased some new shorts 10 days ago (that were very snug) went to wear them for the 1st time yesterday and they are to big. I have also started an excerise program. I have had Pcos for 15+ years, never been able to drop the wieght just pick it up. I feel better than I have in years. I take my 1500mg of met at bed time (that is the only way it does not make me sick). I still have a long road ahead of me but at least i am finally on the road.

I have also started laser hair removal treatment for my facial hair. i have had one treatment so far and can already see a differance.
