Default PCOS - might have to have hyterectomy - keep my ovaries?

Hello bellas - I am new to soulcysters and have a question to ask you. I was diagnosed with PCOS 11 years ago and just in the last few years have been having really bad periods. I cannot be on the birthcontrol pill as I have migraines, and I have heavy bleeding every 2 weeks or so and it lasts for about 8 days. I have seen my gyno and she would like to do a hysterectomy. I got a second opinion and the suggestion is to get a Mirena put in (IUD) and try that for 3 months to see if it works but if it does not to go ahead with the hysterectomy but he also suggested for me to get my ovaries removed as well due to the PCOS. He said that if I don't get them removed that I would end up with diabities, facial hair..... but do you not think that I would have already had those side effects of the PCOS by now? I am overweight, have very oily skin and some acne but no facial hair nor am I diabetic. What do you think? Has anyone had a hysterectomy and their ovaries removed because of the PCOS? I am so confused it's not even funny. I have decided to get the mirena put in and my hysterectomy is scheduled for in 3 months time but I don't quite know what to do about my ovaries - keep or not to keep that is the question.
Thank you in advance to all that will hopefull answer my dilema....

Hi honey, I haven't had one so I can't really say much about the topic.. If you don't have diabetes, facial hair etc. yet you can control it through meds, supplements, diet and excercise.. I really don't reccomend a hyterectomy unless it's absolutley neccesary.. It can cause many problems

I am certain that is not the case. In fact the amount of women who have PCOS and haven't had anything removed, and who don't go on to develop diabetes is proof of that.

In saying that though, I know nothing about the rest of your medical history. Perhaps there are other factors that your doctors believe attribute to your need for a hysterectomy. But I urge you to keep asking questions, and keep asking different doctors if you can. Its not something you should do unless you are completely sure.
