I am new to this site. I have PCOS and have been ttc for 2 years. I never have a regular cycle. Last month I had a picture perfect cycle for the first time in my life. I found out I was pregnant on Monday but I have already miscarried at 5 1/2 weeks. How soon can I get pregnant again? Is fertility really higher right after a miscarriage? What can I do to keep from going through this again. Thanks for your help.
You'll get different answers from different doctors, but generally after an early miscarriage you can start trying to conceive again after one normal period. Sometimes women with PCOS have low progesterone which can cause miscarriage, next time you get pregnant you can request that your doctor check your progesterone level and supplement it if it is low. (Generally, you want your progesterone to be over 20 in pregnancy.) Another simple thing some women do to prevent miscarriage is to take 1 low dose (81 mg) aspirin per day. It is thought to reduce the risk of blood clotting which can cause miscarriage. Also, a lot of women swear that the drug metformin reduces the risk of miscarriage in PCOS, not sure if you are on met, but it also may help you concieve if you aren't already on it. There is testing and treatment for more complicated causes of miscarriage, but generally doctors don't like to do any testing until you have had at least 2 or more miscarriages. Good luck to you, I hope your next pregnancy is a sticky one!
From my personal experience my problem was low progesterone and I had to have ovarian drilling. Not sure about the asprin unless you have a clotting disorder.Don't give up I had many yrs of infertility and miscarriages 4 and I have 3 kids now so dont give up and get your progersterone checked. Good luck
When I got pregnant in October I miscarried at 5 weeks 2 days and that was November 9th. I was told I had to wait 3 months but I also do insemination due to male factor so I don't know if that is why so long or not..then to my shock without ever having a cycle I started to bleed for an hour or so one day thought it was weird so I took a test and it was positive (Got pregnant Dec. 4th and found out Dec. 12th), I was told that you do tend to become super fertile after a loss or birth because your hormones go ape ****....I did however lose the baby I conceived in Dec at 4 1/2 weeks.....Good Luck

Usually, if you miscarry naturally, it is recommend to wait one cycle, this way you know your body is healed and the lining will be sufficient.
Fertility is not higher after a miscarriage. While some woman will Ov after a m/c, many woman actually won't Ov (even if they were regular before) The problem is the hormones are all out of whack, and they take time to go back to pre-pregnancy. So therefore you are less fertile in most cases because Ov will be delayed, or completely prevented. It is not uncommon to Ov way late after a m/c, or to have an anovulatory cycle.
Most miscarriages are just from random chromosomal abnormalities, and can not be prevented. And unfortunately most doctors will not run repeat loss testing until you've had three or more miscarriages, depending on the individual's circumstances. I had two miscarriages, but I don't Ov very often, so they went ahead and let me have repeat loss testing done. Testing included blood work on karyotyping between my husband and I, blood testing for clotting disorders, and an HSG to check for uterine abnormalities.
I have no advice for preventing another miscarriage, and in most cases there is nothing you can do. They're just bad luck and there's no way to prevent them.
I hope that your next pregnancy is successful.
Best wishes.
