Hey everyone, I've got a question for all of you. Have any of you been diagnosed with PCOS but still had monthly cycles? My cycles vary as much as a week on either side of average. I charted my bbt one month and did not ovulate. I'm too forgetful to chart in the morning, so this is the only cycle I've been able to confirm annovulation in.
Just wondering if I'm the only one!

I've been diagnosed with PCOS and I do ovulate. My periods are usually about 5-6 weeks apart, but I do get them. Stress usually will cause me to miss a period for a month. I've been AF'less for almost 3 months now though. REALLY stressful time. I just took Prometrium to bring about AF and am waiting for it come.

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and have always (an I do mean always) had normal periods. I have never skipped one (beyond the ones I skip due to birth control pills) and they always come on time (give or take a day).
I don't think having irregular periods is a definitive symptom at all!

I get a regular period (usually every 28 days or so), but I do not ovulate, according to the over-the-counter ovulation predictor kit I used and doing my temps in the am. No luck with Met helping me to ovulate either, even at 2000mg for several months. Also failed with Clomid. This is frustrating!

PCOS is a syndrome, so not everyone who is diagnosed with it will have every symptom. Some people ovulate. Some people have periods, but don't ovulate. Some are insulin resistant and some aren't.

I have a quick question. How can the body not ovulate and still have periods? How is there a sure way to know that you actually ovulate? Temperature testing and an ovulation kit?

Taking your temps every day at the same time as soon as you wake up in the morning and ovulation test kit are good ways to test if you are ovulating. They can do a blood test, which should be done ideally 5 days after your temps have been high (thermal shift). BUT - my RE explained to me that she doesn't even take that blood test into account b/c the hormone they test actually fluctuates throughout the day in no particular fashion - so you just have to hope that when you have the blood drawn, by chance your hormones at the peak level. It's not really an accurate test at all. The only reason she was going to have me do it was b/c I specifically asked. But, after I did not have 5 days in a row of higher temps to indicate ovulation, I did not have the test done and I just got my period. So, I do not think I am ovulating. However, I do get my period every 28 days or so.

Thanks for the response Tiggerlily. I'm usually pretty regular with my period as well. I thought getting regular periods meant that you were ovulating. Obviously not. I'm gonna have to do more research in to this now. Thanks again!
