Any idea if naturopathy works in PCOS?

Hi there

I think it definitely does, through diet and herbs and vitamin and mineral supplements! But it really needs to be treated individually.. and unfortunately it is costly in my experience. I am on metformin at the moment and just about to start spironolactone. I'd love to go natural but each of these meds are only $3 for a 3 month supply and frankly it just works out cheaper. I can't afford all the extra supplements and herbs or regular consultations with a naturopath.. as much as I'd love to. I am careful with my diet (trying to eat low GI) and I take a vitamin supplement though!! I guess it also depends on what you're trying to acheive.. (are you TTC? Or just trying to manage PCOS symptoms?)
Either way good luck!

Hi Chilli,

Thank you so much for your response. We just consulted a naturopath called Brad Crouch. He seems to have his game in order. He reckons that with good health symptoms of PCOS and infertility can be countered. The earlier the act the better it is rather than waiting on when want to get pragnent. just hoping that he is what everyone says he is. I personally felt comfortable with the consultation. Will start medication from today so would post the updates.

Cheers

I just started seeing a naturopath as well. She seemed extremely knowledgable about PCOS. It is expensive, but I figure that I am worth it. (at least my kids would agree )

I am going to see her to try to manage my pcos.

So far she ran a complete hormone panel including bio available testosterone, which I don't believe any other MD has done. She also had me take a saliva test for cortisone, yeast and some hormones.

She put me on Mediclear for a 3 week cleanse. Today was my first day on it. The diet is a bit strict, but it is nice and healthy. Lots of fruit and veggies, no beef, milk, eggs, tomatoes etc... (highly allergin foods)

She put me on Niacin for My borderline cholesterol. (I haven't started it yet)

I am going back in 3 weeks for a review of my labs. I really hope that she can help because I just can't handle the pharmacuticals though my insurance covers it.

I will post an update soon.

Hi

Naturopathy is only one part of the equation - certainly worth it tho! I think from memory I was on chromium and all sorts of other things to get my blood sugar balanced while cycling.

We spoke at length to one of the embryologists at Monash IVF during our last full stim cycle. He recommended:
No soft drink - NONE!
Organic and natural cosmetics - in particular hand creams, shampoos, make up etc
No perfumes - use essential oils
No artificial sweeteners at all
Organic food all the way
He thought partners should also do this as well as it takes two to have a baby ;-) His reasoning behind this was because we consume too many chemicals and this too has an impact on our fertility.

Default Hey Girls

Well I have recently been told that its quite possible that I have PCOS and my mums decided to send me to a Naturopathist in Hamilton. Helen Donnison is her name if anyones interested. I haven't had any meetings with her yet but will soon. Apparently they can help a lot and help with weight loss and all. Which will be great

Good morning girls,

I am also interested in joining this discussion being that I have scheduled my first appointment with a naturopath who does acupuncture. I was told by my RE that after one round of 150mg clomid (Since I have done clomid and femara before) That he would be diagnosing me clomid resistant and I would be a candidate for IVF. I was like "YOur off your rocker!" I know that there are so many treatments out there before IVF would be the next step so I am wiping my slate clean and trying something else. My Husbands Grandmother refered me to her naturopath and i will be seeing her Saturday. Already on teh phone she seems more knowledgable than any of the 4 doctors I have seen for my PCOS!
