Default PCOS, no doctor, no insurance.

I was diagnosed a few days ago at a free clinic and I have no insurance. I figured I'd keep going back there, but they basically told me I had it without any testing (went only on symptoms) and sent me out the door with some photocopied fact page. They said I'd have to lose weight but didn't give me any type of guidelines to go by or anything. I am confused and scared and am trying to find out if there are any good doctors in the Dayton, OH area. I am also looking to see if anyone knows of any type of state health insurance I could get. I am 21, a full time student and unemployed. I looked into healthy start but they said I must have a child or be under 21. Help!!!

I can't speak to the insurance situation, but I do have some thoughts on what you might do while you are waiting to determine how to proceed with the doctor: Natural dietary changes and exercise. Personally, I have been able to manage much of my PCOS symptoms this way. I was diagnosed 10 years ago, and only saw a practitioner for my initial diagnosis other than your standard checkups. Since I was able to lose the weight (about 30+ lbs) my symptoms have faded. I am now being seen by a Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor, but much of her work and testing is showing that the work I did on my own is what 'did the trick'.

Trying the Insulin Resistance diet, getting regular exercise and eating high fiber low sugar foods may help you in the short term.

Hopefully others will be able to address your key questions. Keep the faith, you'll be able to lick this PCOS, you will. Welcome to the forum boards.
