Default PCOS with no hormonal imbalance?

I have been diagnosed with PCOS even though my bloods came back normal.

I thought that hormonal imbalance was essential in making a diagnosis of PCOS? Or can i still have PCOS with just the cysts and other symptoms - obesity, hair loss, excess facial and body hair, acne, irregular periods?

Confused!!!!!

Hi, it is awful hearing those words you have PCOS without any explanation. I too have no hormone imbalance nor any other syptoms - just the cysts and absent periods. I was just diagnosed in Sept 09 so dont really no much about it myself however i have started taking vit b complex and agnus castus, i think they are suppost to help with all symptoms related to PCOS. Have you got your blood sugar checked and your thyroid? PCOS seems to be all about weight, would you be hevy/normal/ thin? I would be thin that is maybe why i dont have any other symptoms.

Yeah, my bloodwork all came back in the normal range, too. My doctor said that 'normal' is a relative term, and even though I am in the normal range, I may be outside what my body deems as normal, not that that information is really useful if you don't know what normal is for your body. Anyway, good luck!

Hey all, I am exactley the same I have normal hormones e.g low levels of testosterone but I do not always ovulate so there is a slight hormonal imbalance but not enough to be deemed not normal if you get me. I have a BMI of 20 and am a healthy active young woman. The only symptoms I have is infertility due to the lack of ovulation irregular but not absent periods and of course the multiple cysts around my ovaries. I was told by my dr not all women exibit te usuall symptoms of pcos and some only have the cycsts.

In a way its pot luck which symptoms you get due to what hormones if any are imbalanced.

I think PCOS is sometimes used as an umbrella diagnoses for a spectrum of symptoms - including the ones you describe. That's what seems to make this so hard to treat as what works for you may not work for others and vice versa.

I would suggest charting your BBTs - this will help you to see if you O and it can also help you have a greater overal understanding of your body.

hey ye i do chart my BBT but I am a naturaly cold person whos temperature rests at about 35.5 and 36 degrees c :/ and It just shows constant cold even the months i know I ovulated confirmed by blood tests i remain cold no change in temperature, this month has been the same, I got a positive opk but my temperatue has not changed, the only time i have ever entered normal temperatures is when i was pg so that tends to be a sign for me as my temp reaches 36.5 and 37's lol I am strange.

I wouldnt mind the headaches, just as long as it works!lol. I do chart my bbt but as i havent has af from Aug 08, i just started randomly in the middle of the month. I noticed last month that my tempreature are usually quite low around 96.80 - 97.50 although there was about 10 days last month it was like 97.70 - 98.70 which made me think i did ovulate but no bleed after that just the temps came back down and stayed down since. Any suggestions what this could be, if it wasnt ovulation? Still waiting on my appointmment, i have no patience when it comes to things like this.lol.

new here! I have PCOS... and "most of my levels" are in range.. but some are slightly out of range.. but it's my IRREGULAR periods and need to be on the BC Pill to get them;...as well as the vast amount of cysts that is leading to my diagnosis
