Default PCOS or not?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this site and I'm looking for some info on what exactly defines PCOS. I was never officially diagnosed but I was found to have polycystic ovaries in my late teens and early 20's. I also have excess hair on my face, and a little on my chest and stomach. It's not extreme but enough to drive me crazy! Otherwise, I have no other symptoms..I am not overweight, have very regular periods and ovulate every month. I was put on Diane 35 a few years ago but have since stopped as we are ttc. We got pregnant on our first try (honeymoon baby!) but then I miscarried at 5 1/2 weeks. My question is this: Could my miscarriage have something to do with PCOS (hormonal imbalance etc)? And if so, how do I account for that fact that I am VERY regular and ovulate every month? Can anyone shed some light?

Thank you ladies!

This link is from the stickies at the top of this forum:

Among other things, you'll find an article on "Diagnosing PCOS in Women Who Menstruate Regularly".

I know how you feel, the hair growth was what first alerted me that I might have PCOS. I have always had regular periods though and I ovulate. My OB-GYN said that the main symptom for PCOS is irregular periods and the other symptoms are hormone related. I was still prescribed Metformin because I am overweight and my sugar was a bit high- 106. My boyfriend and I have been ttc for one month and I can't figure out if the symptoms I am having are from the medicine or if I am pregnant. It sounds to me as though your hormones could maybe have led to your miscarriage, I would go see an OB-GYN and have some blood work.

Thank you for your responses. I'm going to make an appointment to have some blood work done. I've seen many references to the drug Metformin but I'm not quite sure what it is or how it works. Does it help one in concieving or in sustaining a pregnancy or both?

Thanks again and good luck to you both!
