Question PCOS and Ovarian Drilling

Hi everyone! I am a newbie to this site. And I must say I do believe it is a wonderful site and wish I would of found it awhile back. It is a lot to look through so my question might have answers somewhere else, so if so if someone will direct me to the right thread...

Here is a basic information about me. I am 9 days away from being 26, my dh is 34. Married 2 years ago this month. The first time I had sex was on my wedding night. 3 months later all of my problems surfaced. I was at work one day and all the sudden a sharp pain hit me that took me to the ground. (Past retail manager) I took it that I might of just pulled a muscle or something, so I just went on with life. Well it happened again and again and again...till finally my yearly exam came up in June of 06; by that time I was in constant pain. My gyn diagnosised me with a bacterial infection and said that was probably the cause of my pain. I went from then to Sept or Oct fighting infections and being in major pain. Finally found a new dr in Sept that took care of my infection but not the pain, finally after about 7 ultrasounds and 2 sets of bloodwork I was diagnosised with PCOS (in December). Was put back on BCP but they didn't do anything except give me more cysts. So stopped them in Feb. and started TTC again (previously TTC Sept-Dec). Feb they did a lap surgery to look for endo. Didn't find any, dr. was a horrible dr and my husband and I was not impressed at all. I have now been to 8 dr.'s and on and off different meds. I have taken clomid for 4 cycles and metformin for 2. neither one gets me to ovulate regularly, not to mention doesn't take away the pain. However jumping to today, because my consentration level is deminishing as I type...

This last dr I saw wants to do another surgery on 11/8/07 to search again for endo, do ovarian drilling and a possible appendectomy. So my question is who has had ovarian drilling done, and what are your thoughts on it? It seems like it might me my last option, because nothing else works and I just need my pain to go away and to be able to get pregnant.

What else can I do? I have probably left out a lot of info because I can't keep track of it all...so if you have any questions please ask!

Thanks for your help! And thanks for this site!

Thanks, I will look through those sites. I have done a bunch of research. I just don't know anyone that has actually had the procedure done to tell me their thoughts on it.

I had it done twice, first time with success and clomid to have my daughter back in 1989 with cysts removal and laser drilling. Second time was in 1999, no success that time, way to many other things going against me. Age was a huge factor and my chemical make up for having another child was bad and I had to take so many different drugs just to have it be close to right that I felt crummy and didn't want to do the baby dance. So anyway... recovery took about a week from the lap and within 3 months the first time I was pg with the help of clomid.

Hope that helps

Thanks! I found another thread that talks about OD also, I am finding out all kinds of info, but yours is the first where I have heard of doing it more than once. I thought OD is supposed to last for at least 10 years.

For me, my doctor told me that it would last 5 years. I was also told I have the worse case of PCOS he had ever seen. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. When I re-read what I wrote, my second drilling was successful, but I didn't get PG so that part of it was unsuccessful.

You can find a wealth of info on the net now. When I first was diagnosed... Internet... what's that... didn't really exist to the common public like it does not... thank goodness for progress!!

I went years being misdiagnoed so I finally insisted my Dr. do exploritory laproscopic surgery in 11/05 to make sure nothing was going on in there. When I woke he told me I had PCOS and that he did ovarian drilling. He said I should have a period within two months and if I didnt I should try clomid again. No period in Dec, no period in Jan, I did get one in Feb but I believe its because I started taking Vitex. So I decided to see an endo. because I didnt want to do clomid again....I wanted to know how to fix this not just be medicated. She found that I also had Hashimoto's (thyroid disease). I started my thyroid meds in March 06' and I was pregnant in June 06'. I believe it was a combonation of both treatments but more so the thyroid. Im 7 months postpartum and I've had 5 cycles since although they are about 45 days apart but thats more than I used to have in a year. From my experience I stress that anyone with PCOS make sure there are no other underlying problems. Make sure you see a Dr. who is up to date on the new TSH lab values (.5-2.5) and have your antibody levels checked. Good luck.
