Default PCOS & OVCA?

I was just wondering if there is a connection to PCO & Ovarian Cancer? I haven't posted in a long while because in Jan. I had a hysterectomy and in March Cancer surgery. I have a rare ovca-Granulosa Cell Tumor.

I was dx'd with PCO in my early 20's (I'm now 55). I was taking medroxyprogesterone for the last 4 yrs so I could get a period (hormones showed I wasn't near menopause) and we were watching a cyst on ovary 3.5 cm. Last summer my bleeding was erratic - constant- when I had u/s in early Dec. cyst grew to 9.9 cm. Had hyst and they found Granulosa Cell.

I spoke to a specialist @ Mass. General and I asked how long could I have had this (I was dx'd Stage 2) and he told me that when my hormone levels showed at my age that I was not menopausal that was the first sign, but my gyno would have no way of knowing that.....there aren't many clinical trials for Granulos Cell because only 1-2% of women get it. My Gyn in her 20+ yr career has only seen this twice (I was 2nd).

When I asked my oncologist he didn't know if there was a connection. My endo said possibly. Granulosa Cell is hormone based and thankfully a very slow growing cancer.

I guess what I'm trying to say to women over 50 is that if you are not menopausal yet. seek a specialist in Granulosa Cell. I think there is a connection.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who should be menopausal but hormones come back saying "no".

Don't know. My sister also has PCOS (undiagnosed, but she has it) and will go next week to find out if she has cancer.

Just an update. I had blood work done and spoke to Endo yesterday. He said my Male Testosterone was 19...good; Insulin Level 17...good;TSH a little high-I always was hypothyroid, now a little hypertyhroid; blood sugar was always good now 102. I asked if hysterectomy could have reversed PCO and he said possibly. No ovaries, no symptoms? Does it make sense?
Now we'll see what happens after chemo. I start 6/27
