Question Are PCOS people always given birth control? Should I be on BC? Sex Drive?

I was on birth control many years ago for only a year and a half, before being diag with PCOS. Now I am only on Metformin. Would BC also help treat my PCOS? Aren't most PCOS folks automatically put on BC?

Also, I have not had a very good sex drive for the past few years but I don't know if it is because I am getting older (30), or b/c of depression, or b/c of my depression medicine (Effexor), or what. Are there any BC pills that can increase sex drive somewhat?

Hi there

Not sure but I don't think that BCP are good for increasing sex drive overall. I have read some reports that some women experience MORE of a decrease with one brand over another but in some cases Diane was said to have a better effect in that area whereas for me it kills it. Not as much as when I was taking Alesse (it was DEAD on that) but still decreases it huge from when I'm NOT on the pill at all. I think it just varies from person to person - my suggestion is look into exercising more, improving quality of life overall through hobbies and interests and good diet etc. as all of this can help you to become a happier person overall, without meds. Although you have been diagnosed with depression, it's not to say that by improving your quality of life you can't make your situation better. Bottom line is basically that people who make an effort to improve other areas of their lives generally gain more satisfaction from everything, than someone who doesn't engage themselves in any interests and or hobbies that they enjoy. If you can find enjoyment in other areas, chances are you will be better mooded and more in the mood for sex hopefully.
Best of luck to you!
