Unhappy PCOS - Please help in understanding

Hi,

I am new to this forum and want to know a little more about my case. After reading much about PCOS on net I understand that PCOS can be due to multiple reasons. I want to know what my case is.

Since the age of 15 I have irregular periods. I didnt pay attention to it. After couple of years I informed my family doctor about this. She put me on Ovral (a contraceptive pill, dosage: daily 1 for 30 days) for 3 years. My periods were regularized. I was married in June 2007. At that time my family doctor asked me to take more tests and after that she suggested a specialized gynaecologist. She ordered for new tests and basing of tests results she concluded its PCOS with Insulin Resistance. Here are the details of the test
Technique: Electro Chemiluminiscence
FSH: 2.93mIU/ml
LH:6.97mIU/ml
Prolactin: 23.57
Insulin: 6.68uU/ml (46.3 pmol/l) Expected value is 2.6-24.9uU/ml (17.8-173pmol/l)

I know this is PCOS, does it mean it is Insulin Resistance..? or do I need further tests to confirm?

I informed the doctor that I want to conceive; she put me on cycloreg. I have to wait for 60 days for normal period. If no period she asked me to test for pregnacy. If negative she asked me to take cycloreg 5mg twice a day for 5 days.

I did the same, after taking cycloreg I got the period.

Given my case can you please let me know your views. Am I Insulin Resistant?

Here is how IR should be diagnosed: http://www.medreviews.com/cme_progra...q.asp?nav=6#02

You do not have to have a positive lab result, but your doctor should look at your symptoms and family history. I am on Met, so my labs would be "normal", but I do have insulin resistance (IR). Even when they were not "normal" they were "mild" and still I had a lot of symptoms of IR. I had acanthosis nigricans (AN), a very common sign of IR or diabetes, and most of my spots have faded. The ones under my arms were very dark from puberty until I started cinnamon. You can get them all over including your neck, thighs, elbows, underarms, etc. Most kids with diabetes have AN, but you don't have to have diabetes to get AN.
