My daughter was born 6 wks early...I was transferred to a different hospital and so my OB never delt with the birth. At a follow up appt she said I have no idea how my baby could've been so early, she didn't see anything warning her of this during my exams before that. However, I was to my regular Dr. (who does Obstetrics too) and had indicated I had PCOS and he said, "oh, no wonder your little one was so early". I was surprised to hear that...if that's the case I'm surprised why my OB never mentioned it during my pregnancy.
Is PCOS also linked to LOW milk supply...I had that problem with breastfeeding...I had to stop (after five months) because it was driving me crazy and I was getting no suggestions from my OB.
I'm thinking I need to switch my OB stuff to my regular dr. since he does do obstetrics too and seems to know about PCOS. But I just need to know if these are related to PCOS. Thank you for your time. |

I did, however, have trouble breastfeeding and I'm impressed that you made it for 5 months. With my oldest I only made it for 6 weeks and I had to supplement with a bottle that whole time. With the second one, my milk barely came in and when I pumped, I was lucky to get an ounce each time.

Yes, 2 weeks and then my milk supply was ALL gone. I think i have read that the high levels of testosterone my have something to do with milk supply, but don't quote me on that.

We have several moms with low milk supply as well, which may be PCOS-related. Some supplement and some have successfully brought their supply up. Anyway, if anyone needs help with BFing, docs are sadly undereducated in that area so come to the real pros...nursing moms. I am sorry your daughter was early and I'm impressed you BF for five months. That's awesome! |

My sister-in-law had a baby just a couple weeks after me which hearing how she was doing frustrated me and just made me depressed in the end. I needed to quit BFing. But my daughter today is a healthy and happy 22 month old. I just needed to ask these ?'s as my hubby and I are TTC.
thanks for the support, I appreciate everyone's input. |

Points: 316.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 316.00 | I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 months before I became pregant with my son. My gynecologist had diagnosed me, but I had to find an OB for the pregnancy. I went to a woman who was highly recommened by my friends. I had told the doctor that I had PCOS, but this did not seem to concern her at all. At about 31 weeks, I began to show signs of early labor. I went on immediate bed rest, but at 33 1/2 weeks, I gave birth to my son. My doctor said she did know why he had come 6 1/2 weeks early. After doing some research, I saw that PCOS can result in premature delivery. I was mad after discovering that, because now I wonder if something could have been done to prevent this. He spent 29 days in the NICU, and it was the most terrible experience. I wish I would have tried to find an OB who was well versed in PCOS. Maybe it would have helped. |
