Okay So I have to do a half an hour presentation on Wednesday about PCOS... I have it all ready, but we are supposed to try and generate class discusstion and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with how to go about doing this? ... activity of some kind? ... or what should I put out there for discussion that people would be able to respond to?
Thank

Well, I think that is going to depend on what you focused on in your discussion, i.e. medical or emotional or both, and for what class, i.e. biology or speech. Can you post a little more about that?
You could have all the girls go to one part of the room, then count off by 10 (depending on class size) and have all the *1's* step out of the group to represent the # of women possibly affected...
It's for a social work in health care class (400 level) We have to talk about all aspects bio-psycho-social and medical aspects of our topics. The class only has 26 people in it.

I think the best gift you could give to your fellow students would be an understanding of the psych stuff... the rest can be learned through reading books, but emotional stuff you need to experience to really understand and be empathetic towards. But how to do that... hmmmmm.... The only thing that is coming to mind is having everyone close their eyes, and imagine the experience of a woman with PCOS. Present the story in a way that they are living it... "You are in 3rd grade and have lots of friends, but as time moves forward you find youself being different from other girls. In middle school you start to grow facial hair and have bad acne. In high school your hair starts falling out of your head and you begin to steadily put on weight. You know something is wrong, but doctor after doctor pushes you aside, not hearing you. You feel that you are unfairly judged on your appearance. It feels as if you are discriminated against because of you appearance, you can't seem to land the jobs you are qualified for and are stuck with low end low pay jobs. You find the courage to begin dating and find a wonderufl man to marry. When you try to start your family, nothing happens, which is when you are finally diagnosed as having PCOS.... that would need a lot of polishing up, but it gets my idea across...
Gee, this is a hard question! Hope that helped or sparked a better idea
Thank you so much! I focused a lot on how PCOS affects Quality of Life.

Good luck, the best thing you can do for them is to help understand what not just the women that have pcos live with but what their loved ones, and family and friends go through with them. Glad your doing a presentation on it!
Thanks Everyone!! I am nervous... but not the usual nervous because I actually already knew so much about this topic!

It went well! I talked my entire 30 mins (and then some) I asked the question "They, call this syndrome 'the thief of womanhood' do you agree or disagree with this description and why" to get some discussion going ... overall I got a lot of compliments about it so I am happy!
