I know there's an "exhausted" thread on here, but I was wondering if anyone had information on PCOS and sleep disorders. I've been googling but have not been able to come up with much. I'm trying to get my dr to look into my tiredness. Mostly it's been ignored up until now as a random side effect of PCOS. I too pushed it off as one of the more frustrating, but least "curable" parts of PCOS. My bf however assures me that something is wrong. lol. Nice of him. But anyway, lately I'm tired pretty much all day. I can also fall asleep in the middle of a crowded bar. I seem to go through periods of sleeping 4 hours a night and never being tired to never being able to get enough. When I do sleep, I sleep like the dead.
Does anyone have info on PCOS and sleep disorders?

I thought it was just my meds. I do that too. I'll go for a week and not be able to sleep and then sleep for 14 hours straight and still be tired. Do you have days when, even though you've slept all night, you feel hungover and can't drag yourself out of bed?
What about weird dreams? I have some doozies. It also seems like I'm more tired in the morning if I've had especially vivd dreams the night before.

My phases are usually longer. I slept about an average of 4 hours a night all last year. The past 5 months or so I've been sleepy. I have days where I'll sleep all night, wake up sleepy but go about my day and 5 hours later fall asleep. I actually fall asleep on my 15 minute break at work all the time. I set my alarm. I've almost killed my bf and I when driving by falling asleep. (But that's not common at all!)
Sometimes I have difficulty differentiating dreams from reality. Like I'll wake up and be mad at someone for something that happened in a dream and not know that it didn't really happen until later. Or I'll think my bf and I did something, that we didn't do. For example I'll know that we didn't scale Mount Everest... but whether we went to Shoppers Drugmart yesterday or not remains up in the air.... I get chronological things mixed up too.

Please do research on sleep apnea. That was my sleep problem, and your symptoms sound similar. Sleep apnea has been linked to PCOS too.

Get involved in animal rescue. You won't be sorry. Your heart may break, there may be times when your eyes are red-rimmed for days. You may lose faith in the goodness of people, but your spirit will be renewed by the resilience of those you save. It isn't easy, but it's worth it. I promise you, you will be forever changed.
I too have sleep issues. I had a sleep study and they said it was Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (not restless leg). I too can fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I feel like the walking dead most days. It almost feels like norcolepsy, but the sleep specialist said they would have to do a separate sleep test to find out if this is it. I know I don;t have sleep apnea because they tested for that. Plus, I am only about 1 pounds overweight. I remember my mother being asleep all the time when I was growing up. SHe was an excellent mother, but could not stay awake for anything. I am now the same way.
My boyfriend teases me about being narcoleptic. I'm not really. I'm also not hugely overweight. (I say hugely cause my endo said I should lose 20lbs but my gp said he was crazy) Is that a big factor? I checked my tsh. It was within normal levels... like mid normal.
But I've actually decided I MUST call the dr tomorrow. I fell asleep while doing the dishes today and totally smoked my face on the kitchen counter. I'm going to have a bruise.

I had the same sx's as you. I got evaluated and now I sleep with a CPAP machine. It's a pain in the rear but when you get GOOD sleep, you will definitely know it!
I feel your pain. I am actually going to request a sleep study when I see my doc next week. I have extreme daytime sleepiness and have a very hard time getting up in the mornings. I average anywhere from 8-10 hours of sleep per night. I have a very hard time functioning on less than 7 hours.
I try to make sure I get plenty of sleep because I also have a seizure disorder, and lack of sleep can aggravate it and cause seizures. I am practicing good sleep hygiene as well. I still cannot shake the sleepiness.
The only risk factor for sleep apnea that I have is PCOS and overweight, although my sleepiness predates my weight gain and PCOS symptoms. I have been a terrible sleeper my entire life. I do not snore at all, never wake short of breath, don't have morning headaches, and according to DH, friends, and other family members have never stopped breathing in my sleep.
My dentist asked some questions about sleepiness and by my answers recommended a sleep study. She is doing a new questionnaire and then referring people to a sleep study if they have symptoms of daytime tiredness etc. I think the proactive approach is great, but I thought she blew me off when I shot down her initial suggestion of sleep apnea. I won't say I don't have it, but I know there are a lot of other sleep disorders out there, and I have a feeling she may be getting a kickback on patients who go to the studies and/or end up buying CPAPs or other equipment from the sleep center. This is why I am requesting one through my doc to be done at my local hospital.

I don't wake up out of breath, I make noises in my sleep but don't really snore, more murmuring. I've never been told I stop breathing in my sleep. I DO sometimes do things that people believe I'm awake... I get up and go to the washroom and apparently can have conversations, or grunt "yes" when I'm actually asleep and have no recollection of it. I did this a lot when I was little.
Oh is it normal to getup and look for something you had in your dream, because you didn't realize it was a dream? lol. The number of times I've started looking for my cell phone in bed...

DH says I do snore and seem to wake myself up. I don't know how he would know since he snores like a buzzsaw. He told me it has gotten worse since I gained weight.
I think my natural rythm is just different. I really do sleep better during the day. I always have. I can be falling assleep in my chair at 9 pm and if I don't go to bed, by 11 I'm good to go. I can stay up all night. That makes it tough to have a day job.

I am always tired. I am a vet tech and sometimes inside the room while Im holding a pet for the vet I start dosing off but I catch myself and wake back up. Like a pp said I also am extrememly tired in the mornings and even if I had 8 or more hrs of sleep am exhausted still. I can also fall asleep with loud music or noise around me it doesnt phase me.

I'm a horrible sleep talker, walker and occasional eater. It has calmed down a bit since we got a new bed, but I still talk and get up. DH thinks it is hilarious because I say things like 'witness protection' and 'potato salad' randomly in the night, which I must admit, I find somewhat humorous and wish I could remember those dream! I use to eat so much in my sleep, I would wake up with the bed covered in wrappers. Too bad I didn't have a sleep 'exercise-dvd' issue! I probably gained a good chunk of my weight from sleep eating. I know I should have gone in and received some help for all of this, but it always seemed something I didn't make time for and only thought about when I woke up... this has inspired me to investigate a little further. Maybe the lazy ass doctor who told me I was tired all the time was because I was fat should have ordered some sleep tests.
Sometimes I will talk, sing or yell in my sleep. I haven't walked in my sleep (that I know of) in a long time, the last time I recall was when DH and I first got together, I tried to escape from our B&B room naked and in a total panic, I was pretty sure he was trying to kill me in my dream. I had a lot of sleeping issues that sprouted up when we got together because of PTSD and I was used to sleeping alone.
Dh says I say some pretty strange things, one time I sang a very long song about a hedgehog, he thought that was really cute.
He did not think it was cute when I almost broke my toe on his shin because I was trying to save a puppy from a rabid bunch of possums so I kicked as hard as I could. I feel bad for dh, he has scars from my dreams, neither one of us could figure out how his legs were getting scratched up until the night of the possums. Just last week he got another long scratch on his shin, I don't recall doing it, but we suspect it was me. He says it's no biggie but when I see a scratch almost a foot long on his shin I feel terrible.
When I was in high school I was better at controlling my dreams after doing "dream therapy" that included self hypnosis and meditation to help me change the outcome of a repetitious violent dream about the guy who attacked me. After the therapy I was able to pull out a gun and kill my attacker, that ended those dreams.
Not sure how to quit scratching my DH, I should wear socks to bed and try hypnotize myself to quit kicking and scratching him. I will not kick or scratch my DH, I will not kick or scratch my DH...
Hope you figure out what's making you so tired!
Oh just thought of this, my sister had problems because she was grinding her teeth in her sleep, she sleeps much better now that she has a fancy mouth guard.
