I was just thinking earlier that I must post about this so thanks for the thread
I recently came off the study and am really happy that I took part. Although the official results won't be published for probably a couple of years as they still need about another 30 ladies to take part I was shocked that not alot of PCOS sufferers wish to take part. I would have thought they would jump at the chance at helping with research and also benefitting from all the advice and tests available on it...strange.... I guess it's not everyone's cup of tea to be analysed like that as was quite strict so c'est la vie!
Personally I feel my health has improved alot, so the Low Carb diet seems to have worked for me. My periods are coming like clockwork now every 35 days. Bizzare as that's never happened in my whole life!! My cholestrol went down loads. I'm not sure if my acne has improved yet, I'm too scared to stop taking the antibiotics to be honest in case it flares up! But I'm pretty sure it may have subsided quite alot. I might give it a go and see what happens Will report what happens if I do.
I'm still seeing the dietician once a month so she can monitor my weight still to check I'm not ballooning back up or anything in case I need help adjusting back to normal. Although I'm staying quite strict for another couple of months so I can reach my goal weight of around 65kg - if I get there I'll be so happy

Thats great Michelle...I am so glad it worked for you...I had been thinking about doing it myself and remembered your post...I live in Kent and think it would be worth the travel to Reading to do it...I have already been in contact and they are sending me the forms for my first blood test...I am so excited!!! I am getting frustrated with the support I am getting at my local so I am willing to make the trek...

Hi I am taking part in this study too- I started in Feb and will have my last weigh in in Sept. Like Shellsuit I am on low carb. I had my 3 months bloods done a while back and my insulin went from 177 (fasting!!) -before the study to 30 something. Its meant to be under 10- so whilst 30 is still high Im pretty pleased with the progress Im making!! I have lost almost 4 stone already but Ive still got a lot to go and Ive been pretty naughty over the last week or so-oops! But Im back on track now as Ive thrown away my fat clothes and cant afford to buy any more!!!

Hi- just get in touch with the Royal Berks Hospital-Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology - I should imagine the number is in the phone book or try directory enquiries.
Its a PCOS study so you will need to speak to the PCOS doctor comparing the effects of a low GI diet to a low carb diet.
If you need the number Im sure I have it somewhere so PM me

I have decided I am not going to do the study...I tried do the low carb to prepare for it and just got frustrated with my million year plateu I seem to be having...I decided I needed to do something a bit more extreme and take food out of the picture for a while...I started Cambridge two weeks ago and have lost 17 pounds already...Its the boost I needed since it took me about six months to lose that much when I was doing SW...I was more than a bit sceptical about the whole liquid diet thing but I couldn't be more pleased with the result...I have not even been hungry and for the first time ever I have not cheated!!! I am amazed at what an easy time I have had adjusting to to it...

thats great news. you go girl. like most things in life, when you find a way that's comfortable for you, only then will you get results and want to do it.
keep positive and hope things get easier for you.

I've just read all your posts with interest. Does anyone know if, as far as the fertility treatment trials go, does this mean if you take part you would get free treatment?
Also as far as the diet trials go, do you have to visit the reading hospital? If so, how often.

Do you know how often I would have to visit Reading and whether it matters what else is going on in your life ie fertility treatment, metformin, how much weight you have to lose?
