Have any of you noticed that you have swelling along with your other PCOS symptoms? For the past eight months I have had swelling in my right leg. I recently was found to have a complex cyst on my right ovary. I was given spiro by my doctor who then changed my script to another diuretic because I want to TTC. This morning I woke up and my hand was swollen.
I will be so glad when I figure out what is going on.
Yes I have had swelling in my left leg, put it down to bad circulation as I was smoking also. However, I am now a non smoker for quite a while and still get it.
I had swelling in my left leg and hands a couple of years ago. The problem ended up being a large fibroid. They ran test after test, and finaly someone suggested fibroids... For the longest time, we thought it was related to the fact that I was flying alot. The swelling was always worse when I would sit for long periods...
I finally had to have the fibroid (along with 3 others) surgically removed.

My hands puff up and my fingers turn into fat little sausages on a once, twice or more than that daily basis, but it's not constant so I know my fingers aren't just chubby. But, no leg or unilateral swelling for me. Some swelling can be the result of thyroid imbalance.

Thank you ladies for responding thus far. I think that my next visit will be to a endocrinologist after my GYN annual. I also was told that I too have a few fibroids that are no bigger than 1cm. I wonder can these be causing the swelling as well. I am hesitant on taking the diuretics though I just want to get healthy without simply masking the symptoms.
swelling has become a problem in the past few years for me too. it's in my legs and typically happens on hot, humid days. some days it hurts so bad! i have diuretics and sometimes they don't even work.

All I can say is Thank the stars someone else (even though I wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy) has this issue. I have had it now for about 2 years it's worse if I sit too much in one position.. in fact it's so bad they have me in a compression stocking during the day and 5 layers of bandages at night so it at least looks normal.. did I mention it's only in my right leg?
I actually had tears in my eyes when I read this because noone else seems to know what I am talking about the doctors have written it off to "my weight" after doing their barrage of tests to make sure it wasn't a blood clot. It really does make me miserable and oh does it hurt.. they had me on a diuretic for a while but it never did anything for me.. I'm in the process of switching to a new PCP who came recommended by my Endro so hopefully I can get somewhere with him.
Trinity, did they check you for fibroids? Mine was ONLY in my left leg, and would really hurt when it would swell up... Compression stockings barely took the edge off. Most nights I had to sleep on the sofa with my leg propped up over the back to get the fluid to drain.
Getting the fibroid removed had made ALL the difference.

They have never checked me for Fibroids but after reading your post you bet I'm going to make sure they do. I feel I've gotten a poor quality of care when it comes to my leg even though I've been pointing it out to every doctor I've seen the past 5 years.
The Compression stocking helps a little but by the end of the day since I work in a call center my leg is puffy again what really seems to work is the layers of bandages but then I limp all day because the muscle in my calf is tender.
I also have this problem and it was freaking me out I thought I was just imagining it at first!! It then became so obvious that I knew it wasn't just me and my Mom and DH started to get concerned.
Thank you ladies for giving me an answer, I will go in and get it checked out.

I know it can be frustrating. My swelling scared me so badly, I ended up in ER, at some point (and they didn't think 'fibroids', either). Sleeping with my leg propped up almost vertically helped a LOT. By morning, my leg would be back to normal, and it would take all day for it to swell up again... Propping it up was better than stockings...

Yes, get checked. Don't forget that pcos'ers are higher risk for developing fibroids. I had none of the 'typical' fibroid symptoms. Swelling in one leg was my only symptom (that and a belly that made me look preggers...but I thought it was the pcos...not the fibroids)

I'm having swelling now!! It's been going on for the past 3 nights before I go to sleep I notice that my right leg looks really swollen from my knee to my ankle. There's no reason for it to be swelling! I'm really kind of scared because there's a slight throbbing, but it's not painful or tender. It feels kind of like after you pull a muscle and it's getting better. But when I go to sleep and wake up it's back to normal. No idea what's going on. I have been peeing regularly. Could diet sodas (with splenda) being causing this? I've only been drinking them sparingly but I only started this problem since I've been home and the only decent thing to drink is diet soda (our tap water is disgusting and parents won't buy bottled water and I have no money..)..I try to drink more tea though.
Can metformin cause swelling???? i've been racking my brain trying to figure out what could be causing this and I'm getting nothing. one of my friends said that her moms leg swells when her blood sugar is high. I don't know. I just know it's only one leg (my right one) and it's more of a scare for me being worried about blood clots and everything else..
