Default PCOS symptoms

Hi everyone! I just joined today and I wanted to have your opinions. I had a gyno visit yesterday and he said that my labs came back normal.

I have had irregular periods from the beginning and i have pain sometimes without having a period. I have slight hair growth but no severe acne. I'm also trying to lose weight.

My real question though is about my LH/FSH ratio. I heard that it should be about 1:1 but my FSH=5.5 and my LH=14.8. Some sites list this ratio as diagnostic. According to the test I only have slight insulin resistance.

Any input would be very helpful!

No, my doctor doesn't think that I need one because my hormones came back within range. Should I ask him to do one?

Hi,

I would definatly have a scan done.. my doctor was very good when i was diagnosed last week she had me have the blood tests done and then booked me in for a ultrasound.. I would definatly ask for a scan because then they can also check your lining and stuff as well as your ovaries!

I would disregard your blood work results. I have had 2 specialists now, tell me that the blood work can come back completely normal but the patient can show all classic signs of pcos. My family doctor has treated patients whose blood work was normal but did in fact have pcos. The most insightful thing she ever told me was, you have to look at the symptoms sometimes not the results. If all symptoms physical symptoms are pointing to pcos, then chances are you have it. I know that they also have a swab test which they sometimes do when all of the blood work comes back within normal range. All of my levels came back normal except for my ovulatory levels and i have been diagnosed with pcos because i have all of the classic symptoms. Explore all of your options and get a 2nd opinion if you have to.

Best of luck!

I agree and would get the scan. I have PCOS and my bloodowork was always within the "normal" range however what they consider is normal may not be normal for you! Good luck and keep us posted. I would also suggest that maybe you find a gyno that specializes in PCOS.

When I was diagnosed, the main reason was that I had NEVER had a reg cycle. It would range from over a year between to three months between.

Hi Bella,
I hate to tell you this but I think you may want to try another doctor. I went undiagnosed for 17 years! I kept being told that my tests were normal by different doctors. Finally, I went to a reproductive endocrinologist - that was the trick. Turns out the one I went to specializes in PCOS treatment and has seen thousands of women just like me. Good luck!
