I've been a The Closer fan from day one. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the show. I was baffled as to why they chose to mention the ovarian drilling as an option for her and mentioned that she'd have to give up sweets, when most of us know that's not the only sugars you need to watch when you're insulin resistant PCOS type. It is also those dang carbs you have to watch as well.
If anyone wants a great place to discuss The Closer go here: The Closer Forum it is MUCH friendlier and easier to use than the forums at TNT. Just tell 'em SunKrux sent you.

DH happened to be talking to a coworker yesterday about our TTC (coworker and his wife had infertility problems in the past). And, DH mentioned that I have PCOS and the first thing his co-worker said was, "Has she cut out sugar???". Well, evidently he had just watched the show and was telling DH about how I needed to treat my PCOS. Wahhhhhhhhh - now there will be all kind of random people that say, "Infertility? PCOS? You must eat too much sugar!!"
It is cool to see it get some media recognition, though.

Yeah I was a bit surprised at the ovarian drilling. I guess I wasn't aware that it does anything more than increase fertility or maybe that will be part of the show too. It is a rare day when I say I'm cold too! My husband asks me if I'm sick.

Last night DH asked me if I'd watched it yet (we tivo'd it). I said no. He's like, "you've got to watch it!" Then he told me that she was just diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I watched it today and was also a bit surprised about the no sugar and the ovarian drilling. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'm disappointed that the writers and James Duff didn't appear to have done much homework on PCOS. I've posted a thread (and linked to your, Ashley, Project PCOS info sheet page) and posted a link to this site.
I love the show but it's disappointing that they went for the most drastic/dramatic treatment and haven't done much more.
I was diagnosed and am insulin resistant but I'll be damned if I'm giving up chocolate.
I do try to limit how much of it I eat, but dark chocolate (my fav) is good for you too.
They should have at least had the doc mention cut down on the CARBS and sugar/sweets.
*wanders off to the glamor site...

Maybe the writers have a plan for this ovarian drilling, like accidently getting pregnant. It would be very interesting to see Brenda pregnant. I was telling my husband about the doctor talking to Brenda about chocolate and insulin resistance on the show. He was like, "Will giving up sugar improve your PCOS?" Yeesh. Then I explained to him the different types of PCOS and causes (again) and that it was like telling a diabetic to give up sugar and things will be all better for them. Then he reminded me that it was just a tv show. But he was believing the no sugar thing too.

Considering what I've read of ovarian drilling the chances of Brenda possibly getting preggers might go up, IF she doesn't develop scar tissue as a result of the surgery.
I really do hope they don't go the preggers route with her.

SunKrux, I with you. She's neurotic enough without adding a baby to it. I can just see her forgetting where she left it, or trying to put it in that giant purse.

I think it would be hard for her to be so single-minded about her cases with a baby, which is part of what makes the show so good. Her willpower is amazing. She actually bought that candy bar last night and threw it out. I wish I had a writer somewhere giving me that kind of self-control!
