Default PCOS and tooth problems

Is PCOS linked to tooth problems? I have always had good teeth but lately they have been hurting and I had to have one filled 3x in the last year and a half (the filling just keeps falling out and the cavity keeps getting bigger and bigger.). Now I think I need to have it pulled.

I was just wondering if Pcos, metformin or birth control pill could be causing this?

Julie

I don't think any of them have dental side effects.

I don't know about cavaties or pcos, but Insulin resistance has been linked to periodontal disease: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...ct/ai_92282947

Smile It never occurred to me

Thanks from me KimberlyHeidi ~ it never occurred to me that it could be related to PCOS or IR or anything but genetics and how you take care of your teeth.
Lately I can feel a definite difference in my teeth and gums too. I haven't had a filling for over 20 years but I can feel something that feels like one now and another spot that has hurt here and there. My sugars have been getting worse over the last year and a half.
I'll try to remember to ask the dentist if they've ever heard of Insulin Resistance. Odds are against it, don't you think?

A few years ago, my [then] dentist said I had periodontal issues. It took 6 weeks to get my gums back in shape (I didn't even realize there was a problem).

Now I can't live without Listerine and dental floss.

I have been having the same problem, but for me anyway its like everything is normal in my mouth and then all of a sudden one day one will just snap in half.
I brush my teeth all the time, mind you I sometimes forget to floss a day or two.
Its just getting rediculas, I think I am going to ask my doctor

My teeth haven't been causing any problems, but the dentist did say you've got to be extra carefull when diabetic and really stay on top of cleaning and regular check ups, he did notice that my bottom gums were swollen. So I'm wondering if this also goes for IR??

That is why I asked this question.. I was the same way growing up. My Mom was always amazed that I could eat all of my Halloween candy in no time and not get a single cavity, and my brother would have his for what seemed like forever and he always got cavities.

s_robb.....I know what you mean. I have also had one snap all of a sudden. This is getting rediculous.

Well good luck to all of you

Thumbs up Great teeth too.

I had good teeth all through my childhood and through my adult years too, it's just been lately I've had any problems.
Our whole family had good strong teeth. The dentist once told me that all 7 of us went 13 years without a cavity.
I thought we did really well.

But now I feel like in the past 2 weeks I've had more aches and pains in my mouth than I've ever had before. I'm pretty sure I found a cavity this morning too.

This Insulin Resistance is more of a ***** than I realized when I first learned I have it.

I've never had a cavaty in my life. Every 6 months when I get my teeth cleaned and such my doctor always tells me I have very healthy teeth with good roots. I hope it isn't an issue because I don't want to break my perfect record. Even on met I havn't noticed any chances.

Tooth and gum problems are linked to hormone issues.

My dentist could tell when I was on my AF because it effects the gums that much. You can have inflamation during AF time even in your gums! I also was refered to a specialist at one point(before I met the above dentist) because they suspected peradonal disease.
The soonest I could get in was 10 days later. After the exam....They asked me why I was refered becaused they seen no issue as drastic as stated by the dentist.

So things I learned....

Do NOT see the dentist just before or during AF.

Make sure to eat or drink a juice before using novicain. Without either, the novicain can't work right.

If you do experience gum bleeds during AF try an antihistime to help control it.
I usually will take 2 tylanol and half a benidryl before a teeth cleaning session.

It also should be taken an hour before the appointment if you have stress at the dentist office.
I have to give children Benadryl to my son(or half a tab of reg) because of his asperger issues. It calms him enough to get through the appt.

I haven't had any problems since I became listerine and floss fanatic. I can probably live without Listerine (if I had to), but I go insane without floss.

I had to go into the dentist last year to get a tooth pulled in the back and for some reason when he stuck the needle to numb the area it just wouldn't get numb... I think he stuck me about 5 times and when he did start going at it, I still felt everything he was doing, it was painful. He just didn't understand why I could still feel everything. It was a awful experience I know that...I just always wondered why it wouldn't get numb.
