Yesterday, I went to my eye doctor to for my annual exam and to get some new frames. Last year he told me that the vision in my right eye was weaker then the left. He really didn't see any cause for alarm but he said that he was going to watch it and to come back if I have any problems. So yesterday, I going through the standard testing and read the eye chart and stuff. He told me that the vision in my right eye has improved. The look onmy face was priceless. I haven't worn my glasses over 6 mos. So I asked him how did that happened? He said that I made it happened. I said ooook. The he started telling me about this condition Pseudotumor Cerebri, http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/p...htmpseduotumor. Also, called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. Its common in overweight women. By loosing some weight, I relieved pressure off of the optic nerve. My doctor told me its is cause when the fluid from the brain that runs to the spine gets clogged up and don’t drain correctly or at all. So it put pressure on the optic nerve or something. It mimics symptoms of a brain tumor but its not a tumor.
I've been doing some reach on this condition http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/515407?rss. Apparently, metformin is also used to treat this condition. Not to mention weight loss, low carb diet, etc.My head is still spinning. Although, its good news to know that my vision in my right eye had improved, it really hard to cope with everything hitting me all at once. I guess when it rains it pours. Just curious how many cysters also have been diagnosed with this condition?
Hi, i just wanted to say i was diagnosed with pseudo tumor cerebri in nov of 2004. It affected my vision a little not a lot but i would get terrible headaches from it. I was put on topamax to control the swelling. It did wonderful, i lost weight, the swelling on my optic nerves went away and so did the headaches. But in december of 2005 i developed kidney stones and was put on a lower dose then had to be taken off it. They tried another medicine but i started gaining weight so i took my self off. So far so good, my eyes are good and so is my headaches. If i kept my weight down i do not have systoms. But now i am TTC and hopefully i will not gain to much if i do get pregnant.
Oh i forgot i was diagnosed with PCOS in 1996.

So pseudotumor cerebri is tied to pcos? Wow. I told my best friend that I'm not going to another doctor in awhile because I'm tired of telling me bad news. LOL!!! I was dx with PCOS and the end of Jan 07. So I'm still dealing and trying to cope with that. So now I'm hit in the had with this? I'm thankful for knowing but I wish it wasnt back to back.
I was very glad it did too, since i already wear contacts. The worst part was the headaches. The topamax was wonderful, but i only lost 20 pounds on it. my cousin took the topamax just for migranes and lost 90 pounds. But alas, something always happens and i developed kidney stones, which was terrible.
Right now so far so good just trying to keep my weight off.
I am not for sure if it is linked to PCOS but since pseudo tumor can be caused by weight and of course weight doesn't help PCOS, I guess it could be. I have spoken to women who have it, (there is a message board just for pseudo tumor) and i think i was the only one with PCOS too. Some of the women were losing their eyesight and had really bad headaches for days. Some had to have the fluid removed through a spinal tap, just to get relief. Thankfully mine was very minor and is under control.
I hope this had helped some.

Its not that much info on how pseudotumor cerebri is linked to pcos, but I have read a few articles on that a few women with pcos have pseudotumor cerebri.
