Does anyone have any idea how a PCOS woman is to identify when she is going thru menopause?

My mom went thru menopause at 39, my sister 40 and I dev PCOS at 36. Both mom and sis are on hormone replacement but I am being treated for PCOS. I am now 38. my PCOS symps are similar to premenopause with the addition of Insuline Resistance. I'm wondering if my endo diag me wrong, but that elevated androgen thing....do menopausal women ever have high androgens?

What is the difference in reading lab results to determine one from the other? Anyone know? Has any woman here gone from PCOS into menopause and had it identified by the same doctor?

Not sure if I'm going to be much help, but thought that I would give it a shot.

A better term to use rather then premenopause is perimenopause. During this time, the amount of androgens your body produces can fluctuate, and can cause some PCOS symptoms. Here is a link for a little more info.... http://www.4woman.gov/faq/perimenopause.htm

I've heard that perimenopause can last up to 10 years before a woman actually goes into menopause.

You could talk to your dr about how he came to the conclusion of your dx. You could also go for a 2nd opinion.

I had one day of surgical menopause after my hysterectomy while my body was waiting for the ovaries to come out of shock. I experienced a couple of hot flashes and was extremely irritable. My poor dh didn't know what to do with me. I was up almost the whole night after surgery going thru spells of frustration, anger, anxiety, and crying.

id say to talk to your dr again, too. My mum started hers at 38, and im 41 now.
