Well, I feel like my body is so beyond my control right now. I tried metformin, but all I got was diarhrea and very watery bowels every other day (sorry to be so graphic, but that's the only way to describe it). As for weight loss, yes I did lose some weight, but it was from all the water loss. There was not a single reduction in the inches around my waist or thighs, the areas where most of the poundage that I gained went to. I stopped taking met, and am still on the insulin resistance diet. Why am I not losing weight? I feel like I'm doing everything right: weight training, aerobic exercise, and eating right . . .and still, there is fat on my stomach and legs.My body did not use to look like this before I started taking depakote and the PCOS was induced. . .what's going on w/ my body? Is there any hope for me in trying to shed the inches and pounds? Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, was it resolved? I would love for somebody to help me out. I'm tired of wearing baggy clothes to hide the mini-tire tube on my stomach. Thanks so much fellow soulcysters. |

I heard somewhere (from working out): "In one month, you'll feel the difference; In 2 months, you'll see the difference; In 3 months, others will see the difference." |

One thing that seems to be a constant for the women who've lost weight w/ Metformin is that it restored their menstrual cycles. When I took it, I did not get my period. I'm starting a new birth control pill soon. I think that once my body's hormones are back on a regular cycle, I'll be able to lose weight. Here's to hoping and thank you for the feedback. |

Then I gradually came off and I have gained 15 lbs. back. I feel like I don't have control over my eating. Help! I need some advice on how to help myself. I know that I don't need to eat the sweets but I am addicted to them. |

I have lost 36kg or 77lbs, going about 5kg under my original goal weight. For this reason, the ticker tapes don't work for me, because they say '5kg to go', when it's really in the other direction.
I don't know what the other women are saying because I haven't read this thread, but I think it is important to understand that everyone is different, PCOS affects everyone differently and diets do not work for everybody. It's good to celebrate each others' weight loss, but I don't want anyone out there to feel inferior if they can't achieve the same results. I'm sure that isn't what is meant by the 'you can too' part of the title to this thread. Yes, there is certainly hope, but please don't beat yourself up if you have not experienced the same fortune. I did that to myself for years, wondering why others lost weight on diets and I didn't.

Losing a quarter of that would be wonderful for me! Could someone please help with recommendations! I would be really grateful! |

Points: 396.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 396.00 | Looking to join the CYSTERhood Hello
My name is Voni. I hvae been diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago. I did not know what to do and I was in a state of depression. Today I weigh 247 pounds. In December 2005, I joined LA Weight Loss. I was very excited but today I am still with them and feel like maybe it is not going to work for me. I started the LAWL and I was 264 pounds. They seem more concerned about selling me the product then the do about me. But I am going to stick it out with them since I have paid for the program already. I am also insulin resistant and I am working out on a treadmill at the gym for 1 hour a day every day. Sometimes I can get in another hour for the day. I am hoping that I will go down to 150 pounds. I am very afraid of all the miracle weight loss products out there aimed at someone like me who is very vulnerable. If any one have experieced true weight loss with any particular weight loss product, I am all ears. If I cant get the weight off I will soon consider Lap Band surgery. I am trying to save my life. Oh by the way my doctor has subcribed BYETTA. If anyone else have been using this I realy would apreciate some feedback on it.

I lost 50lbs in 6 months with them!
It's all about portion control with Weight Watchers, and teaching you how to make healthier choices, and the support group is awesome!
and I have maintained this for 3 years!!

Doing it unofficially, I lost 10lbs in the first month, and now I only have 15 to go to my goal. I like it because you can eat virtually anything you want, but you learn the difference in serving sizes. I used to feed myself good food, but way too much. Now I cut back on certain portion sizes, and increase others like vegetables or soups that would fill me up more. Now that I have the food end in better control, I can begin working on the exercise end. |

In 8 weeks, I have lost 45 lbs. My insulin level has gone from 23 to 7!!! (Normal is 3-17)
It's definately a drastic diet, but it also works!!! |

My Mood: Points: 2,035.91 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,035.91 | I did not get fast results with Met. I am on 500mg a day now, was on 1000mg. It has taken me 26 months to lose just over 16kg and to do this I am on less than 1000 calories a day and I exercise for 9.5 hours a week. I hit a plateau a while ago and have not been able to shift it. I have had base metabolic rate tests and am supposedly using 1700 calories sitting still so I don't get where my body gets them from without burning fat but OK.
I am just saying don't expect huge fast results from Met. It doesn't do that for everyone, I got my periods back, no cramps, and the hair on my legs and underarms and face is thinner and does not grow as fast but I have to work really hard and nor miss any exercise in order to lose what I do. I rant and rave and say its not fair but I can't change it so I do what I have to.

I actually put on a kilo!! CAn anybosy encourage me!!! Did this happen to you? Its called X-VITe and its new to teh uk so you may not have heard of it. I spoke to customer service and teh lady was really helpful..she reckons if i persevere it will pay off (although the only paying off i'm doing now is $50 approx a week plus produce ect..She was very concerned about my lack of weight loss..and weight gain..and is even sending me some more supplements free of charge! The shake is design for women with pcos and many have had good results..i just dont seem to be!!
So i guess this is more of a plea for encouragement than anything!!

Basically i really feel as i hit as low as i could possible go. I heard so many great stories of the metformin and the IR diet i knew i had to do something so i made a app with my gyne. Lucky for me she gave me metformin and a week or so later i found out i was infact IR. Since i was started on treatment there was no better time to start eating right. So then and there i cut out all simple carbs from my life and whenever i had complex ones i always made sure i balance them with protein. I also start walking loads and swimming atleast a week. Today i can say i am now 40 pounds lighter. Have reached my goal weight and have never felt better. |
I have decided to update my weight loss story. Since i posted it i have lost a assitional 10 pounds so that is 50 pounds gone since august 2004. I was to my dr just over 2 week ago and she was really impressed she said the metformin and eating plan i am on is really helping and that i now got one symptom of pcos gone and that is overweight. She said to keep eating right and taking my metformin.
