My gyno was the one who recommended it to me as he says that is the program more of his patients with PCOS are successful on. The great thing about it is that you can modify it to be lower carb as well. The fact that you exercise is a huge bonus to you but can also screw some people up in how much they eat- they think "I exercise so I can eat (fill in the blank) and still lose weight". You will need to balance the food also and then you will lose weight. Good luck to you- it can be done! |

Does the flaking of the scalp cease? I think it's great that so many of you on this thread have come a long way in your weight loss. I would love to know if, by losing weight, we can go back to being 'normal'?
Thanks!:-) |

Congrats to everyone on their losses and thanks for sharing your success with us - you're all such an inspiration!!
My journey started on August 6, 2005 ... in 9 mths I lost 90 lbs! Unfortunately about the same time I hit a major plateau which kept me bouncing back and for between the same 5 lbs! Thank goodness I finally broke my plateau on Sept. 11th (giving up was never an option!) and I'm back to losing again.
After years of trying every kind of fad diet out there - counting, moderation and exercise is what finally done the trick! (whodathunkit?) And water, we certainly can't forget about that can we?
Here are a couple of pics ... I'd love to see more posted here - so, if you have them please post them!
**ETA** Not only have I lost 90 lbs, but I've also lost 85 3/4 inches - There's 7 FEET less of me than there was a year ago!

I've lost 60 pounds following a calorie-restircted diet that basically includes all kinds of foods - I never restrict what types of foods I eat, I only portion control. I also exercise regularly. I went down from 223 pounds to 163 pounds as of today. I still have a bit more to go but I am grateful for every pound lost.

I was always the chubby girl and my weight just kept creeping up, creeping up. I never had AF. One day, when I was 13, I woke up in excruciating pain in my lower right abdomen. My parents took me to the ER and they thought it was my appendix at first. The CT scan showed a large ovarian cyst that had torsioned (twisted over on itself cutting off it's own blood supply). So off to the OR I went. The cyst, along with my right ovary and fallopian tube were removed and were actually gangrenous. I was in the hospital for a week on IV antibiotics. That's how I was dx'd.
So, I was discharged and told to follow up with a reproductive endocrinologist. I did, but then, being a teenager, I was totally oppositional and noncompliant with everything.
So, I slipped into a deep depression and continued refusing treatment. All the time my weight kept moving up.
Eventually, I was able to overcome my depression and went off to college. I started seeing the RE again, taking progesterone and getting my AF. Then switched to bcp. I did WW and lost 40 lbs and then got bored/lazy/whatever and stopped doing it. The weight went right back on, plus some more.
So lately, I decided to give it another try. I have a lot more motivation now than I did when I did WW a few years ago, and a lot more support.
Right now I'm -40.5 lbs in 17 weeks. I've lost 26 inches (7/25-10-24) and 2 pants sizes. I'm on bcp, met XR 1500mg daily, multi-vit, and calcium. For diet, I kinda do my own thing. Basically, I just make better choices, plan my meals if I know I'm going to be going out/eating a big meal later, restrict my calories to about 1500 cals/day, and track my intake on fitday.com. I exercise 4 times a week (running 3 times, yoga/pilates once a week). I do yoga on the tv occasionally too (I'm trying to increase that habit! lol).
- Jess

I havent got any more recent pictures of me yet but I think I'll try and get some every 5kgs/11lbs or so to share!
I've been on a 1200 calorie/120g carbs/30 g of fat diet and I have been mapping my intake with a Nutrition diary from CalorieKing.com where there is an Australian and American version avaliable. Points: 114.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 114.00 | Just Beginning Hi. I saw all of the wonderful results people have had to all of their diets and I wanted to Give everyone a Big CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I recently started doing the Fat Smash Diet which was created by Dr. Ian K. Smith, many celebrities that are overweight have used and are still using this diet. It is Day 5 for me, and I don't know how much weight I have lost but I really do feel a lot better health wise. I have more energy and I don't crave all the sweets and candies. I will update you on how I do with this but it is basically about reprogramming yourself to eating healthy and not falling pray to fad diets or pills. I wish everyone the best of luck with their weight loss and I hope to join all of you soon on the board. |
