My Dr. told me yesterday that the u/s of my ovaries were not cystic. I saw bumps though. Is she insane or am I? lol
Could it be that there are bumps but they are not necessarily cystic? Thanks for any help cause I am confuzzed.

I dont really know the answer....it all looked like blobs to me! BUT....I also was diagnosed WITHOUT cystic ovaries. Just remember that cysts are a symptom, not the actual disease. It is kind of the same as being overweight. While most ppl with PCOS are heavy, there are "thin" cysters too. (same for hair loss, etc, it can go both ways).
I have no idea if they should have looked bumpy, or if you were seeing something else. Maybe it was the eggs or something?? I am not that familiar with it..
GOOD LUCK!

You will find there are a lot of cysters that don't have cysts on their ovaries. My last ultrasound showed like 2 white spots which were cysts. I am not the classic strand of pearl cyster. I do have a cyst here and there, but most women have cysts and just don't know (from what my doctor said). The cysts will shrink and they aren't even aware of them. Mine ruptured though, which sent me to the ER. My doctor didn't dx me with cystic ovaries though. As for the lumps, I didn't see any lumps, just two little white circles that were smaller than dimes. If you don't trust your doc, get a second opinion or accept yourself as insane.
Best of luck to you.

when i was first diagnosed with pcos and had my right ovary removed it was a huge cysts. and the doc at that time said my left ovary had small cysts now when i go to my doc after a move, she says after a sonogram that my left one doesnt have any cysts.
so im right there with you. ,but she still wants me to be careful . with my symptons of pcos., and my overall health. hang in there
and know you are not alone.mandy
I read that like 83% of those with PCOS have cystic ovaries so that leaves quite a few people who don't have those. You may have seen bumps on your ovaries but now enough to be classified as polycystic ovaries. Like it was said, most every woman has some cysts on her ovaries and my doctors told me they actually worry if the girl has no cysts because they don't know for sure if the ovaries are even trying to do something.

Have regular cycles, apparently have very low fasting insulin (below normal), low free testosterone (though total testosterone higher than recommended-in that wonderfully accurate normal range but high for a female), DHEAS was the highest androgen. No polycystic appearing ovaries. ????
I was diagnosed with out cystic ovaries as well. But I do have insulin resistance. So I was wondering if my symptoms were just from the insulin resistance not pcos because I read that insulin resistance can increase your androgens which results in oilier skin, more acne, extra hair, thinning hair, weight gain... sounds a lot like pcos to me. So which is it? Insulin resistance or pcos?
im also insulin restinance that is part of the pcos according to what my doc said but im not diabetic but take the glouphage to hopefully help me not become diabetic ( god forbid) Ii already take one shot for my psorasias . i take enbrel and have to take shot 2 during the week and imbound and determined not to take another!! i would be shooting upeveryday!!thanks for letting me vent! so just hang in there and keep postive spirts thats all we can do. mandy
