Hi. I'm 30, just diagnosed as "Infertile" and my gyno said that I had PCOS - this was without any bloodowrk, so I'm not sure he's right yet. Until yesterday it was 100 days since my last period. I do have some hair issues, breakouts around neck and strange cycles.
My doc never mentioned anything about cysts to me - i did have 1 extremley large cyst, but he never mentioned anything about other cysts during that ultrasound, so i guess what I'masking is, how could I have PCOS if I have no C?? (cysts)??
Not everyone with PCOS has cysts, the name is misleading. It was originally called Stein-Leventhal Syndrome and I have no idea why they changed the name. According to my MD, I don't have enough cysts to diagnose PCOS, but my bloodwork and symptoms confirmed it. You will find a lot of info and cysters on this site that can explain it better I'm sure.
Welcome to SC, you'll find a lot of friends and support here!

I hope you get bloodwork done espcially checking your insuling, blood sugar and cholesterol. Blood work can also rule out other serious issues like Cushings, thyroid problems, liver problems, etc.

I don't know if I have cysts because my doc has never ordered an ultrasound. Btw, were you dx'd as 'infertile' automatically as a result of the PCOS dx? Just curious because lots of cysters have babies.

I did have cysts when first diagnosed; but at my last u/s nothing; so it just depends; they can be there; but when treated properly they disapear/ my doc thinks it's becuase i have lost weight and am on MET and Diane that this is so;

The diagnosis was not PCOS, it was "Infertile". He said he suspected I have PCOS and I'm still waiting for blood results. I'm thinking (hoping) that he put "infertile" for insurance purposes so that I'm covered.
Would that make sense?
I don't think I meet the criteria for fertiltiy meds etc, becuase I'm only 30 and have only been TTC since March, whoich is 5 months. I think you need to be over 35 and over 6 months or under 35 and a year before they consider you infetile, unless you have PCOS or something like that.
Did that make sense at all?
