Default pcos and your gallbladder

Hello all, I am new to this forum although i'm not new to the PCOS diagnosis. I was told in 06 that i had it, but i had a horrible doctor and he was downright rude with his "findings" so i shrugged him off took all the pills he prescribed for afew days and then forget him and stopped everything, i conceived 4 weeks later.
Now fast forward my baby is now 9 months old and i was just told that i have to have my gallbladder removed and rediagnosed with PCOS. I believe this doctor as he has the test results to back up his findings. the other doctor looked at me said your fat, you have dark hair and its thin. I am not back on metformin to help with my slightly elevated insulin levels but because of the gallstones i'm not allowed to take the birthcontrol. My question is for all you readers out there is. Does metformin make you ovulate ? we want to have another child but my doctors advise me to wait at least till after the summer. I want to wait long enough tohave my gallbladder out and get healed up from that and get some excess weight off ( i'm on a diet pill for that) because i'm not on any form of birthcontrol i'm wondering if i should be cautious or does metformin not make you ovulate it just does insulin.
thanks in advance and i hope everyone the best with this
Melissa

Had my baby and then 2 months later they removed my Gallbladder (which was causeing pancreatitis) took about a month to feel better.

Metformin helps control the wonky hormones and can help you ovulate. If it didn't I wouldn't have had my miracle. So looks like you'll need a backup birth control.

Make sure your Diet pills won't make your gallbladder worse or interact with the Metformin.

THank you for your response. I think i'll be having my gallbladder out in a week or 2 tops they are kind of rushing this so it must be urgent ( my pain is intermiten i haven't had any in over a week) The doctor that diagnosed the gallstones prescribed the diet pills so i'm assuming ( bad on me) that they don't aggravate it and the gynecologist knew about the diet pills so i'm hoping they did their homework and they don't have a bad interaction, but all of the scripts were filled at the same pharmacy so they would have told me as well. (hopefully)
well here is to hoping that after the gallbladder is out we get pregnant quick we want ours to be close together

Welcome to SC! I'm really sorry that you had to start out with a crappy doctor. IMO some doctors should have their licenses taken away just because of the way they treat their patients.

Metformin will help you ovulate and help regulate your cycles so you are going to want to us a back up until you can go on BC. Metformin also helps a lot of women lose weight so that is another bonus.

I had my gallbladder removed in 2002. I had a terrible attach one night and then a few days later they removed it because I had a lot of gallstones. Now they do it laproscopicly so you should heal much faster than the old way. I was moving around after about two days and fully recovered after about a week, although my stomach is all messed up since.

Good luck TTC!

I had my gallbladder removed at age 19... 6 years ago and 4 years before I was DX with PCOS. I have always been curvy and went temporarily insane and basically starved and over exercised myself and lost 30lbs in 3 months with an almost no fat diet. One day I decided to gorge on a bag of chips and that sent my gall bladder into a frenzy... creating more stones than my body knew what to do with. I went to the ER many times but they said you just have an ulcer, or gas. I said ok but kept coming back as the attacks were dibilitating and horrible. Finally the did a US and removed my gallbladder laprisopically(sp) and the pains went away after a 2 day recover but I've also had stomach issues for the past 6 years ever since. Sucks, but not as bad as the attacks.
