I just LOVE peaches. And, they are in season now, right? So, why can't I find a decent peach in all of south Florida? We're not too far from Georgia, right?
I keep buying them at different stores and every single one has been dry and/or tasteless. I want a nice juicy, sweet one. I've been to Publix (local grocery store), a local farmer's market, and Whole Foods. All their peaches were awful.
Any suggestions? Am I just selecting the wrong ones?
Thanks,
Shari

Our peach tree is doing terrible this year. It is producing a lot of peaches, but they are a sorry sight. I think it might just be a bad year for them. Our plums are doing awesome though!
Hm... we got some good ones at whole foods about 2 weeks ago (the Georgia ones, not the California ones), but they were gone last week (we did manage to get the same ones that week at a produce market that still had them though). Both the white peaches and the standard ones from Georgia were tasty (the CA ones were weird and not very good). Of course, my standards for what makes good fruit have dropped a lot since moving to Boston.
Peaches aren't quite ready here yet. We're just getting into raspberries and cherries at the moment. Though we can buy peaches at the grocery store. Hard little flavourless things. Blech. I wait for the fruit stands to have them, and then we go crazy. Owen and I ate so many last year, since he had just started on solids and peeled, diced peach was perfect for him. I put some in a very light syrup and froze them, too.

wait for the donut peaches. The look like peaches someone sat on. And the donut moniker doesn't just refer to the shape. They're the sweetest fruit I've ever had.
