My Mood: Points: 4,776.89 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,776.89 | Pearly White Ovaries? Why are polycystic ovaries white? I was googling pics online and i see that normal ovaries are pink but polycystic ovaries are white? What causes this? It looks almost like the ovary is encased in a shell. I had an ultrasound done and saw what they look like that way, but the laproscopic view is not what i expected at all. I was told i have a string of pearls (the cysts) so i just assumed that there were cysts on the outside of the ovaries or with in them. I guess i'm just freaking out because the pictures look really scary!!!!

My Mood: Points: 4,776.89 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,776.89 | So i found a little bit of information however i dont really understand some of it. But here it is:
Grossly, the ovaries of most women with PCOS are bilaterally enlarged and globular. They are often described as having an “oyster shell” appearance because they have smooth, glistening capsules and are the appropriate color. The tunica albuginea is often thickened diffusely, and many cysts 3 to 7 mm in diameter are present on cut section. Because ovulation rarely occurs, corpora lutea are rarely present. Histologically, the follicular cysts are usually lined by granulosa cells and surrounded by a thickened and luteinized theca interna and are in various stages of maturation and atresia. When islands of luteinized thecal cells are found scattered throughout the ovarian stroma, not just around the follicles, the term hyperthecosis is sometimes used. The clinical syndrome accompanying this pathologic finding is typically characterized by massive obesity, severe hirsutism reflecting particularly excessive ovarian overproduction of androgens, acanthosis nigricans, glucose intolerance with insulin resistance, and hyperuricemia. http://www.endotext.org/female/female4/index.html

I was at work and the receptionist comes running up to me almost yelling about how the clinic called and my ultrasound appointment was for this date and time, so everyone is staring at me. Then I go for my US and the lady is all excited, like really happy saying Oh wow!!!! You have really big ovaries!!!! Then whoever analyzed the test or whatever said everything was normal, later on I find out that large ovaries are not normal!!!!
