What kind of lotion are you using? My mom has had terrible peeling on her nails for years, and lately she's been using something which I think is called "hard as hooves". It's in a litttle tub with green labeling, and I think it's for horses or cows by the name. Since using it, this is the first time since I can remember that not only have her fingernails not peeled, but they have actually grown.
Where do you get this hard as hoofs stuff. I have a lot of problems with my nails peeling. But they peel from they bottme. I have very thing nails and I try everythign to make them hard.

I use Hard as Hoofs and I get at the local Sally Beauty Supply. I use it in conjunction with Renuanail or rejuvanail clear polish. This stuff makes then really strong. So just check your local beauty supply.

I would almost think that if they were peeling at the knuckle side that it could be a fungal infection or some other problem. The fingernails can be very indiciative of other health problems and it might want to be worth a mention to your doctor.

I have very thin, peeling, chipping nails. I started taking prenatal vitamins about 6 weeks ago (it's the Vitamin E in them) and have noticed a *HUGE* difference. For the first time ever my nails grow thick and beautiful! It has also helped with my dry scalp.
unfortunately, i do not have insurance yet, so i cannot go to the dr and ask him what is wrong as far as my nails go. I did have some type of fungal infection in my inner thighs and my dr gave me a cream to use 2 x a day and its got some type of steriod in it as well. Thats all cleared up...As far as what lotions i use...ive tried vasoline intensive care..this stuff called body butter that is really thick and makes ur skin really soft, keri lotion, curel, and i think thats it so far......I feel so gross LOL there is always SOMETHING wrong with me and i feel so crappy cuz i cant go to a dr till October..

There are many possible causes of peeling fingernails. Thyroid disorders (hypo or hyper) can cause brittle nails. Chronic exposure to nail polish can produce brittle nails with peeling of the edge of the nail. Vitamin deficiency can cause a lack of luster or brittle nails. When I was severely anemic, my nails flaked quite a bit and were very brittle.
Here is a link to some info about how a malfunctioning stomach can result in fingernail problems:
One of the most common causes of excess hair loss and cracking, splitting, peeling, or chipping fingernails is is a malfunctioning stomach , When our stomachs don't make enough acid and pepsin (a major protein digesting enzyme), a wide variety of nutrients are "lost." Amino acids (the "building blocks" of protein), minerals, vitamin B- 12, and folate head the list. With such a variety of nutrients impaired by a malfunctioning stomach, it's not a surprise that something has to "give," and the hair and nails, being presumably less essential to health, are often the first to go.

My nails would peel from the bottom up. I mean, layers and layers. It was disgusting. I would get the fake nails just because I was so embarrased.
I found this stuff called Etre. I was kinda of talked into buying it. It has a special nail file. And oil. You use it every day and I can't tell you what a miracle this product is. I know havr long nails...that don't peel or crack!
And I have NO affiliation to this product whatsoever.

Ok, I was walking around the mall one day and you know those booths they have set up in the middle of the mall? That's what it was. This woman came up to me and grabbed my hand and asked me if I liked my nails. I was like "look at these things, what is there to like about them?" lol
She did the demo on me and I was like "well, that's nice, but I am not interested. I have tried everything and nothing works." So she kept lowering the price and was pretty much annoying me so I bought it. I used it for a week and nothing, but around the 7th day, I really started to notice a difference! It's a french product and the cost was 20.00 but I talked her down to 12 lol. Now, I would pay the $20 without blinking!
I am going to try and google it for you.
