Althogh i've not been diasgnosed with PCOS, it's what my symptoms point to, and as a result, I've got a pelvic ultrasound on the 28th, and wondered if anyone could tell me what to expect?
Expect to have to drink heaps! they need to be able to see you ovaries clearly and when your bladder is full they get a clearer picture
don't worry, its harmless! I've had it twice now and once I had a really great tech who explained what it was all about, that was great!

When I had mine done about a month ago, my Dr. actually had me empty my bladder right before the procedure. The actual ultrasound was pretty quick...only about 3 minutes. Just long enough to get a look at my uterus and ovaries. For me, my Dr. had to push pretty hard to either side to see my ovaries, which was pretty uncomfortable. It really wasn't too bad overall, though.

Hi, Sticks. I'm actually 28 and didn't plan on posting anything to the teen board, but I saw a message elsewhere on SC from a woman with a 13 yr old daughter who was just dx and I was telling her that her daughter should log on b/c there was a teen section and I just popped in to see if it looked like a 13 yr old would like it or if she was too young. Anyway, long explanation, but just wanted to explain that I wasn't really lurking on the teen board.
I think the u/s is a lot different depending on whether it's internal or external. I believe the external one is the kind where you need to drink a lot because your bladder pushes the stuff they need to see higher so it's easier to look at - I had an internal one and I think they told me to pee right before so the bladder wouldn't get in the way. I actually found the u/s to be kind of traumatizing, mostly because I didn't know what to expect. I thought it would be like what you see on tv with a computer mouse-looking thing on my belly, but that's the external kind. For the internal kind they put a wand up inside me and moved it around. It wasn't really painful (but it wasn't the first time I'd had something in there, if you know what I mean), but it was a little uncomfortable, and it just felt kind of invasive. I think I made some lame joke about at least buying me a drink after we got done, but it was really because I was kind of in shock. I don't mean to scare you, but I wish someone had told me about it before I had it done and I wish I'd brought someone to the hospital to hang out with me. You might want to find out ahead of time what kind of u/s they're doing so you'll be prepared and then it won't be a big deal.
Again, I'm sorry about posting to the teen board, but no one else seems to have had my kind of experience and I wanted to let you know. Leaving now...
Joey -- you are welcome to post on here! We welcome advice from all!!
THANKS
