Question WAS IT A PERIOD????

okay all you gals who know the ovulation cycle by heart.....

i was just dx'd with PCOS about a month ago. my doc told me to have my bloodwork done on the 7th day of my next cycle (even though we both knew it could me another month or so). i explained that i always spot (light brown discharge, barely enough for a mini-pad) at least a week to 10 days prior to having a read "bleed". she said in that case, have the bloodwork done on the 7th day of spotting because that is the start of my next cycle.

SO --- i started spotting last monday and just stopped on friday - completely stopped. no cramps, no additional blood, nothing.

was THAT my cycle????? should i still have the bloodwork done, do you think?

(you'll probably all say, "call your doctor" *LOL*) - Kim

I how call your dr.

unforatantly I can't give you much more advice. I have the habit of no period just showing up all the time. Make sure your dr is aware that for some reason this cycle is not normal......do you normally I regualar cycles??? might make a diffrence.

Hopefully this will help you...
I have had a serious problem with my cycles...meaning I don't have them! Even Provera wouldn't work for me...
But one month after I finished my Provera, I got a tiny bit of brown spotting for a couple days- never needed more than ONE LINER EACH DAY. Never even got red, just stayed brown.
My doc said that still counts!!!!!!! She said that the reason you have periods is because of the shedding of the lining- and the lining is totally built up by estrogen. Well, my problem was low estrogen....so I had no lining built up- therefore there was nothing to shed! Hope I didn't confuse you- Maybe you just have low estrogen? But the moral of my response is, my doc said that any "bleed" counts! Good luck to you!

Hi Kim,
Do you chart your temps? This is a great way to know if you have ovulated and when you might get your period--even for those of us whose cycles run over 50 days. Some people get spotting when they ovulate.
Many of us with PCOS do not see the dip then spike in temp that happens with ovulation. In my charts sometimes I see it and sometimes I don't, but it has been helpful over a long period of time to keep the charts so that I can see patterns in my cycle.
Whenever I get my period, my temps drop. Maybe if you aren't charting now and start you will begin to see where you are in your cycle. Even if you aren't trying to conceive, it is very helpful. You can get free charting at fertilityfriend.com (or is it fertilityfriend.org?)
