I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago (maybe 7). In that time, I have not had a period w/o the help of medication. I, at one point, wanted to have another child (have one son, 12) & did 3 cycles of Clomid w/o success. I have all the usual 'symptoms' of PCOS & I am Diabetic. My questions are these: 1) Recently, I began "spotting" & it lasted roughly 8 days. I did not need to use tampons or pads, but it was regular (when I used restroom). It was always light red, pinkish color. A spotty, streaky type. My question, could this have been a 'period' ?? On the first day it "started," I did feel cramping, but I don't know if I was (only) responding to the sight of the long forgotten blood! 2) Would my chances of becoming PG increase after not having a period for so long & then having one "out of the blue," if this spotting/streaking was a period? I had unprotected sex (multiple times) without even considering the fact that the spotting I had experienced might have been menstruating. 3) How on Earth would I go about calculating my time of ovulation, after so long w/o periods, if what I just experienced was one? Do I just wait to see if it happens again? If it doesn't, assume it was a "freak" thing & go on with life (if I don't become pregnant)?
THANK YOU for any advice/assistance. !! CONFUSED !!
I don't know if that would count as a period, but something must be happening hormone-wise, and that is a good sign. Not sure about your chances of getting PG, something must be happening, and that is a good sign.
A lot of ladies take, record, and chart their temperature to see if/when they are ovulating.
Try this website, ( http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ ) to learn more about temping. It even lets you chart your temps, and even helps you figure out which day you are ovulating.
Have you done anything different lately, or in the month before the spotting started, that might have had an effect on your body?

Sometimes you can actually bleed without ovulation, I am not sure if that would be a period or not but hopefully things are starting to turn around for you. Im not sure how you would count your ovulation day usually you would count the first day you saw bright red blood as cd1 if opks work for you then maybe you could try them. I hth.
I don't know if that was a period or not... usually if you don't have to use a tampon then it's not a period... however I do agree that something is going on and that is a GREAT sign! I would think that after so long of not having a period on your own then something happening on it's own like that would mean you are on the road to higher chances of conceiving!!
Calculating your ovulation for that could be tricky since you are supposed to count the first full day of blood as cd1, and if you spotted it would be hard to determine. But for your next cycle first day of no spotting is cd1, and depending on how long your cycle length is would determine when you would O, like I normally O on cd 15 and have a 28 to 31 day cycle. I would start to chart and temp. Take your BBT , your temp is to dip the day before O and then O and on it will rise until your next cycle. You can also watch CM, when your CM is eggwhite clear that is the most fertile! You can check out this article, it's called, "an Overacheiver's guide to getting pg fast" click here: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/88/99728.htm
I really liked the article... maybe it can shed some insight for ya

OK, what was your LAST day of spotting and mucus? If you get your period within about 2 weeks from that last day, you probably ovulated.
I have irregular cycles and I can generally tell when I ovulate due to cervical mucus patterns and sometimes ovulation cramping, and then getting a period about 10-12 days after my last "wet" day.
If you have cervical mucus but NO period within a couple weeks, you are either pregnant or didn't actually ovulate.
I just had the same thing happen to me. I'm on the pill but had cramping and spotting (I think) several days before I normally start my period. It lasted about a week total, but was really light most of the time. I guess I'll just wait and see if I get my next period in March; although I'm tempted to test just to see. I just don't know if it would be too early.
Good luck, I hope it turns out the way you want.
