Default Period wont end

My period is going on 3 weeks and counting. I am starting to get worried. Has anyone else experienced this? What can I do to make it stop?

I also am getting a lot of dark mucous or clots.

Hi, I just had one of those too. I had af for 53 days. I went to the doc a couple of weeks ago and he told me either bcp or a d&c. I started ortho lo and the bleeding subsided in about a day or two. It sucks I know. I only took the pill for a week cause I couldn't stand the side effects. He also did some bloodwork and called over the weekend to tell me my iron was low. I would make a doctor's appt. and make sure to take vitamins or eat extra iron so it doesn't get low. Good Luck

When I was a teenager I had these problems. I would have my period for weeks or months on end, get a break of a week and then start again. After a 2nd trimester m/c my period disappeared altogether until we began fertility treatments 3 years later. My longest period ever was 6 months. They couldn't do anything for me. They tried some method having me take a bunch of birth control pills at once. That didn't do anything but make me feel bad. I was exhausted a lot. I think this frequently happens to women as PCOS progresses. Nobody ever suggested a D&C to me. I think I owuld have been willing to try anything. Good luck finding something that helps.

Are you on met? Met seems to help regulate a lot of people.

I had my period for 4.5 months (yes- thats MONTHS)- it was miserable. The only thing that stopped it was a 10 day course of progestin.

If it continues, see you GP. Mine was light, but if its heavy for that long, you could become anemic and so on.

Good luck!

I had my period 30 days. I was on the depo shot, and i started using NPC to try and counteract the migranes i was getting. When i used it, my period started and lasted then for 30 days. I had such bad cramping that i used the NPC again, and finally it stopped. I'm not positive if it stopped because of the NPC or if AF was sick of her stay. But it might be worth a try. You never know.

Hey!
My first experience was for 6 months straight. I went from dr to dr and they all wanted to give me bcp to regulate (this was before i had my official dx, but I knew that I had PCOS). I finally found a dr who would listen to me, I told them no bcp I want you to find out what is wrong.
They did a saline injected sonogram and found that I had a polyp connected to both sides of my uterus, so therefore it couldn't do what it was supposed to. They did a hysteroscopy to remove the polyp (lining was 5 inches thicker than what it was supposed to be.) They put me on bcp after that to keep it regular and it did the trick.
I was married in sept of '05 and we are TTC so no bcp so my cycle is a little haywire right now. but I took provera to do a medical d&c and I think it is working.
I would recommend finding a dr who will listen, b/c it could be more serious than just "making up for lost time"
Good luck I hope it stops soon! My were the same way, very heavy clotting and changing a lot! KWIM!
I wish you the best,
Sara

I've had a 6 month af. Prometrium worked well for me. I told them up front that I was against bcp because of previous experiences.

My max time of af has been 2 months, I got lucky and it quit on its own. This was when I was in the 9th grade. Becuase it stopped I didn't see a gyno, if I had I probably would have been dx. sooner oh well, 20/20 hindsight.

My second longest run 3 months I had a polyp and all that jazz that sbcwpcos said. Forgot about that and she reminded me. I started Met the month before I had the d&c and polyp removed and have not had long period since starting the met. But progestin worked the first time.

I have been having mine on and off since the beginning of January. I am getting sick and tired of it. I am going to end up with diaper rash.
