Question Periods?

My last for sure period was at the end of december 2002. After that once in awhile I'd get spotting a day here or there maybe once or twice a year 3 times max. with no pattern at all. That is until about 3 months ago. In July I moved in with one of my best friends she has PCOS as well and is on the pill so not only does she have cycles but regular as clock work ones. So 3 months ago she has her period and just as she's stopping I started spotting lasted for about 2 days. Not enough for a tampon and since I'm allergic to most pads this sucked. Month later she has her period and right at the end I start spotting again. Same thing last month by this piont we've tracked down a pad I can wear luckily. Now I have been watching my carb intake for about 6 months now as well as slowly losing weight. And I kow that these are all things that can help with getting things back on track but could these be periods?

It could be your body is trying to kick start a period. A lower carb diet and weight loss can cause periods to resume sometimes. Hae you been checked by a GYN? You can get endometrial cancer from no period for that long.

I have actaully never been to a gyno. Just my Primary care dr and I went to a metobolic specialist for awhile but due to no insurnce I'm not on any treatment for PCOS right now. They have basically said to not push the periods on me as if its not natural I get extremely ill if it wasn't for that I'd be pushing to have them but I can't afford to have weeks of my life taken away every month....or even just once.

Honestly they are setting you up for major problems. You need to see a GYN and get a pap smear very soon. If they can get your periods regular and less severe you should be having at least 8 a year to reduce your cancer risks. At the very least you need the pap smear and to discuss your uterine lining buildup with a GYN.

I agree... get in to see a gyn. You want to prevent your chances of any type of cancer or what not. There could also be another problem. Let us know what they say!

I am considering an ablasion. So i wont bleed at all anymore. Anyone tried that?

You can check the hysterectomy threads for some info. Some ladies have found their problems with other things increase after a hyster. Other than cancer, I can see no reason for me to have a hyster ever. Have you seen the long bleeds thread?

For those with pelvic pain or non stop bleeds

What about ablasion? Where they burn out the lining. Have you or anyone had this done? Everything is intact, the bleeding isn't there anymore

I've heard of it, but have not had it done. You can search this site, as several ladies have had it done and shared their experiences.

I think your body is trying to regulate itself...that being said I have had the same thing and still no period for months and months...My question is I have had an ultra sound after almost a year of NO bleeding at all..and my lining was not thick...it was normal??? and my doc says you can not get pregnant without a period...and I have had five pregnancies (three kids) with no period between?? I guess I am just odd because they can not figure me out

In a normal woman you ovulate, then if you don't get pregnant your body will shed the lining of your uterus. In cysters, we don't as a rule always ovulate, and sometimes we ovulate without a period. It's just part of our messed up hormones. Several ladies on this site have gotten pregnant after not having a period for months and months. Remember, the ovulation comes before and is supposed to trigger the period. It doesn't always do that.

Progesterone is what causes the lining to thicken. I think if you have low progesterone you would not have the thickening, but I might be wrong on that. Many ladies on here have lost babies due to low progesterone levels in the first trimester.

I'm not on treatments because I have no insurance and can't afford it. I'm spotting again started this morning its heavy then previous months and its also sooner than expected my roomie isn't even on her period yet. I did have an ultrasound done about a year and a half ago they said everything looked good. I have been sick for about a week so I haven't been eating much and I'm dropping a lot of wieght my jeans are almost to the piont of falling off.

You should definitely check out programs in your area. Specifically at your local hospital. They may have a "charity care" program that you can apply for and then have testing done...or whatever is needed. GL
