Default Periods and ovulation

Hi Guys

I have a question for you all. I have managed to regulate my menstrual cycle with diet and exercise, and now I have a period every full moon come hell or high water.

My question is, If I am having regular periods, does this mean I am ovulating? Or not necessarily? We are hoping to start ttc very soon and any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Donna

sorry donna, didn't see your original message.

Doesn't necessarily mean yu are ovulating, but there is a good chance.

I'd say if your regular chances are you are ovulating most cycles. It may be worth buying Ovulation predicors tests just to find out.

Seems to be different for everyone, I think a test kit is the only way to know for sure. I controlled my AF and weight by diet and exercise and get AF regularly every month now (most months, some months it's a week late if I eat the wrong stuff) me and my partner haven't used contraception for over a year and well....it's still just the 2 of us! I feel some months I might ovulate but generally I think I don't although I do get AF. Very confusing!

Question

I was diagnosed in March 2006 after ttc for a year, am currently working up to 1500 mg Metformin a day. Am exercising 3/4 times a week and following a low GI diet. My cycles are every 36 days and since following the low GI diet 30 days but this month I used the Ovulation predictor kits and I don't seem to have ovulated? Does this mean that if you have a period you still may not have ovulated?

Also what are the really wrong thingas to eat which can stop ovulation?

Hi there,
from what i have heard, the ovulation predictor kits can be unreliable for women with pcos becos we can have elevated levels of LH everyday. Much better is to chart things like your waking temperature and cervical mucus.
in reply to someone's question earlier about not ovulating and having a period - it is possible, although the bleed isnt classified as an offical period. the process is something like this: when the follicles develop, they produce oestrogen. when the level of oestrogen is over a certain threshold, ovulation occurs. The follicle that held the egg then collapses and produces progesterone for about 12-16 days. This progesterone encourages the growth of the womb lining. when the level of progesterone falls, you have a period. You dont ovulate when the level of oestrogen doesnt get over the threshold, and thus the follicle doesnt break down and there is no progesterone surge.
oestrogen can also cause the womb lining to grow and it can break down without progesterone, hence you can have a 'period' without ovulating.
Phew! sorry, that was very long!! hope it is of help to someone - i was wondering about it for ages!!
kazza.

I agree it's v confusing. I have regular af and have been p/g twice unintentionally...sort of. I used Persona ( before diagnosed, now I know it's unreliable!) and only saw the O sign once. If you do have af without ovulating it's another of life two fingers up at us!

Hello I've just returned to TTC after having a break from it, now before i'd have to use Norethisterone to get Af and i didn't ovulate the whole time i was trying, even Clomid didn't help.

But while on my break i did the Atkins diet, and lost 4 stone, and my AF returned, every month on the dot, so i'm now hoping i may ovulate (although it's not definate just because i have periods)

So no, just because you have AF doesn't mean you Ovulate, but here's hoping we do

I have been told, the best way to check, is to make an appointment with my nurse on Day 28 of my cycle, for a quick blood test to check Progesterone levels. (Maybe this would help yourself).

Anyway, "Baby Dust" To all those TTC
