Periods while on "Active" Birth Control Pills?

Hi,

Hoping someone can help shed some light on this. I was diagnosed with PCOS in March 2005, put on Ortho Tri Cyclen bcps. After 6 months, my doc switched me to Ovcon-35 because I was having mid-cycle spotting on the Ortho Tri Cyclen. Been on Ovcon for 4 months - take it religiously at the same time every day, never miss a pill.

But...my cycles are still not regulated. I typically still have some spotting a few days before my flow begins. This past month (3rd pack of Ovcon pills), I had only 5 days of dark brown spotting on the inactive week of pills (where my normal flow should have been). Now, in the middle of the 2nd week of active pills, I have begun my normal period.

Has anyone else had a period while on the active pills in a bcp pack? It is extremely frustrating that nothing seems to be able to regulate my cycles. I never know when it is coming or when I will spot and don't know what to try next.

I used to have that all the time before I finally got on the right pill for me.
My doctor refferred to it as breakthrough bleeding and changed my bcp's.
It took some doing but I finally got all straightened out.
You may want to call your doctor and tell them whats going on.

Thank you SOOO much for responding to my post! Sometimes I just feel so alone with this, and it is very frustrating. My doc has been trying to get the breakthrough bleeding to stop for about a year and I have had very irregular bleeding for about 2 years before that - I finally switched doctors because the first one didn't seem to be concerned about it. I've been on 2 different bcp's so far - neither seem to have fixed the problem.

I'm going to give this current bcp another month or so to work (I'm due for the doctors in March). I've also been changing my exercise, diet, vitamins, and have been under a lot of stress - wondering if that is also affecting my cycle?

I really hope to someday (soon!) have this under control. It is taking quite a toll on my self-esteem because bleeding 3 weeks out of 4, sure doesn't make you feel very good about yourself - I feel defective and very non-sexy.

At least your post gave me some hope that someday this will be under control!

No problem!

I know how frustrating it can be....having a period for two or three days is bad enough, let alone three weeks.

I hope your doctor figures it out but just to let you know....I also went through many bcp's before starting yasmin 28 and that was the gem that worked for me!
Maybe you could request this one, if you havent already been on it, as I had two friends of mine they worked well for with breakthrough bleeding.
