Question Periods.......yes I know

I am having issues. Can someone answer my question.

I've been on and off of the pill for years, taking metformin in between. That was a few years back. Well, I decided to stop my pills, doctor said that was fine and to go for it. So I've been eating differently, going to the gym, haven't lost any pounds but one clothes size in a month! Yay for me!

The problem is that I've been irregular since I was twelve years old, I took this venture last year for weight loss, got my periods regular then became pregnant but it was ectopic.

I decided again this year that I was tired of the BS and since I don't have insurance I was going to get my period going again.

Well, it's going again but the funny thing is that I have it during the day, in the afternoon is slowly goes and at night nothing. Morning time comes nothing, then it kicks in again and goes on like this. Does anyone else have periods like this? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm so happy to see it I jump for joy.

BUT isn't that a little weird???

Not to me. Same thing happens here -- heavier flow in day when I am moving around, and then nothing over night.

I think it pools in there and then comes out with change in movement or squeezing or whatever.

I think it's nuts....when I was on the pill I would have it day and night for FIVE days....NON STOP.......now that my body's doing it on it's own I think it's confused. I dunno

Change in flow amount? Maybe from the change in hormones? Or change in diet?

What do you use for sanitary gear? Some women notice a decrease in flow when changing from disposable to cloth pads as well.

If you are worried, you could see a doc about it.

HTH!

I use pads, I haven't used tampons in forever. It's not the flow amount that's bothering me, it's that it disappears and then shows up again. I just think it's strange. Guess I'll wait and see what happens next month. Just hope it shows up.

Oh my goodness!! I have the exact same thing, but have been to embarrassed to ask my doctor. The first night I will have my period and then the rest of the nights...nothing... even if I get up and walk around in the middle of the night.
Whew! What a relief to know I'm not the only one.

Shedding the uterine lining is not like turning on a faucet and having continual flow all the time. You lose it in blobs and as it detaches from the uterine wall, the residue works its way down and out.

I feel it come out... like a warm gush. Or I can make it come out by squeezing down with my muscles.

Some things I know slow the flow down like laying down to sleep (think about it -- horizontal body, no help from gravity. And when I get up in the morning I know to get up slowly or else I'm going to have a big gush before I hit the bathroom. )

I know to expect darkish, clumpy flow in the morning after sleeping because the old blood been drying up and clotting all night. In the day it's more red and "fresher" blood because my moving around keep things moving on down faster.

Takgin a shower can temporarily stop flow so if I'm going to have sex with DH during menses we shower first, have our jollies, and then carry on as normal.

Sorry if that's TMI... I was trying to avoid being TOO blunt in my previous posts. LOL.
But really I don't find it freaky at all, and if it helsp reassure others, there it is.

Again, if you ARE worried -- go see the doc. Nothing to be embarassed about.

See now....I tried to explain to my DH that having fun during my period helps with the cramping and actually feels nice. But that's a no go with him. He freaks out and runs the other way...If only I could change his mind...Any ideas?

I agree with astrope's post. Mine does slow down later in the day to very little at night. It is a bit heavier the first night though. Also, I did the same thing as far as changing my diet. For the past 4 years I've had somewhat regular periods, and I've conceived twice within a year. I've noticed that my periods are much different off the pill. Much shorter and after the first day much lighter. I also don't have cramps as bad as I did with the pill.

I also have lighter or non-existent flow at night, usually. I always look at those huge thick nighttime pads and think...hmmm...what are those for?! Seriously, I have bled at night before, but not always. I think it's gravity - my periods are pretty light and when I'm lying down not much happens. I prefer it that way!

Yeah, orgasms are supposed to help with cramps. I think its a shame your husband won't get involved, as bodily fluids are quite natural and not disgusting. However if he's insistent... er-hem....I can only suggest you take care of yourself!

Everyone's got their own "personal normal" for them that fits into the "normal range" in general for flow.

Sex with DH during menses... What is it exactly that he's afraid of? Have you asked?

If you shower first there's no menstrual blood or very little menstrual blood. You could try it with a condom if he's squeamish about personal contact with blood.

Or do it on the floor or standing up or on an old dark towel spread on the bed if the problem is worries about staining the sheets.

Or pleasure yourself if he simply doesn't want to go there. The Good Vibes catalog is quite nicely done.

Cobra pose (yoga) is very useful for cramps. Here's a picture:

I have been reading "gynecological health" a comprehensive sourcebook for Women by M. Sara Rosenthal, phd. It has helped me understand more about what goes on in our magical bodies. Every one has a different normal. What could be happening is the pooling at night and it could clot and that causes larger clots, all normal.

Hey Chula.....How you doin?

I honestly think that my husband misunderstands the entire process. I asked him one time, he was scared he was gonna hurt me. Then the other time I almost had him talked into it and he freaked, because of get this "blood".

Maybe one day he'll get used to it, it's been a long time without it. I guess he'll come around with time. Everytime I get a chance, I explain things to him. Whether it's about pregnancy, PCOS, menastruation <-- don't think I spelled that right.

He's come a long way since we first were married, he knew what urine was, but had no clue where it came from. Imagine that!!!

I'm gonna keep working on him though!!

But, I'll check out Good Vibes too!! :p
