I just started using a Persona this cycle to see if I can predict ov. I was pretty sure that I wasn't ov (I ov with Clomid) but on cd 18 & 19 I had a little sign on the monitor that I should ov within the next couple of days. Could this possibly be wrong? I'm taking Met and my cycle is now 26 days long, if I ov on day 18 or 19 is it too late in my cycle for the egg to implant? I'm very confused as I was sure that I don't ov on my own. Even if I was ov, I estimated that I should ov around cd12 (14 days before next af)
Can anyone help?
love
Alison

Ovulationpredictor thingies of any type are usually pretty much useless for women with PCOS, because our hormones are all off. Ovulation is usually predicted by a surge in LH and since our LH tends to eb high anyway, it's rarely accurate. The manufacturers of those products will usually tell you that. I wrote to one and asked and they said, if you have PCOS, no point using it. I don't know how Pesona works, but I will say that if you only have a 26 day cycle and you are ovulating on day 18 or 19, there will not be enough time for implantation. Although, if you are sure you're not ovulating and it tell you you are, you should look for other signs of ovulation. Try and get the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, it's really good and gives you a lot of important information. Good luck!

Thanks for replying. I forgot to add to the last e-mail that the dr thinks I have PCOS despite me having absolutely no symptoms of it so I'm not entirely convinced that I do have PCOS. I have a feeling they may be fobbing me off because they don't have anything else they can think of to diagnose me with!
All that aside, how many days between ov & af do I need for implantation to take place? My cycle is only 26 days long because the dr has put me on Met. Before that it was regularly 28-30 days.
Thanks
Alison

As far as I know (and you really really should get that book, it is very useful) you need, ideally, 11-15 days for implantation to be possible. But everyone's different, although the general consensus is that 10 days or less is not enough time. How are you doing on the Metformin? Are you low-carbing?
And have you had blood-tests done to check your hormon levels? They don't always show anything, but it would be useful.
hugs

I'm doing fine on Met, it doesn't seem to be having a particularly big effect on me other than making my cycles 26 days. I'm not low-carbing but I am on a sensible low-fat etc diet and I've lost 8lbs.
The reason I was referred to our local fertility clinic in the first place is that I had 21 day tests done by my doctor and they weren't sure whether I was ov or not. Apparently the prog level wasn't particularly low. I then had lh & fsh tests done with my consultant and they were normal. I also had a couple of scans and neither of them showed any cysts. The only "symptom" I have is that I'm overweight. I have no excess hair, no loss of hair, and I never miss an af. Despite this my consultant is certain on a "hunch" that I have PCOS.
I've had another cd21 prog test done today and I should get the results on 8 April when I have a review scheduled.
To be honest it all just makes little sense to me and I feel fobbed off. I had major abdominal surgery in Spain of all places about 4 years ago and despite telling my consultant this I haven't had an hsg or a lap done as she says I'm too overweight to undergo an anaesthetic (I'm 80lbs overweight!). When she did the last scan she said that she had trouble finding my ovaries because they were so far forward and I'm concerned that they may be stuck to my abdominal wall or something, but try as I might I can't get her to let me have any more tests. As far as she's concerned she thinks she's found the problem and that's the end of it.
It doesn't help that dh now has a problem with his perm aswell. When we first went to our gp he had a test done and they said the sperm were fine and now suddenly our only hope is ICSI! It's all just so annoying. I can't understand why I've been diagnosed without having any symptoms and dh has suddenly gone from having perfect sperm to useless sperm. It's like I'm in the middle of some kind of hideous nightmare that I can't wake up from! (Sorry, think I'm being a touch melodramatic now!)
Anyway, thanks very much for your help, I'm looking into getting that book.
love
Alison

Rebecca May born on 18th Feb04 WOW !!!
March 2005 - starting Metformin again and doing IUI again in April to try and provide Becky with a sister or brother.
I live in Severn Beach and I work out at Parkway, small world! Are you being treated by your gp or are you seeing a specialist?
Just to update. Af arrived over the weekend and I had a 32 day cycle which was exactly what I expected considering the persona results. Had my review appointment with the "specialist" yesterday and we went over my 21 day tests which of course were useless as I had a 32 day cycle and ov on or around cd18-19. Anyway I told her I thought I ov around that time and she said that the prog results are consistant with that. Looking back at before I was put on all these meds I had a 32 dayish cycle then and chances are dh and I were bd at the wrong flipping time!!!! Anyway after spending hours telling me I still need to lose weight and she thinks I am ov (And I personally think I always was!) she is now convinced that the problem is with dh!!!! At the first appointment he had a sperm analysis which was normal and then recently it's gone to the dogs! Dh did have a little bout of something last year which the doctor said was epididimitis? anyway, pain in the testicles and just now the consultant decides that that may be the problem!!!!! After putting me through the mill she now has made no mention of PCOS and is convinced dh has a problem!! She actually tried to refer him to the sexually transmitted diseases clinic and I could see him getting redder and redder!!! (He was a virgin when I met him!).
Anyway this has turned into a bit of a rant sorry but I'm just sooooo annoyed that even though she had the information in front of her she never thought that dh may have had an infection (I get cystitis & thrush every now and again) that was just never treated and came from me and although I was treated he never was. I was furious when I came out!!!
Oh dear, I should calm down, this stress isn't good for me!! LOL
Anyway at least I know exactly when I'm ov and that I am ov and dh has been given antibiotics and has to have a new s/a done in a couple of months time. Finally we may be getting somewhere, and if dh can get his wrigglies back into tip top condition, there's no reason why we wouldn't be able to conceive naturally or have IUI which would be available on the NHS!!! Hooray, finally there's hope!
love
Alison

Hi I posted this on another topic but thought I would post here too incase you did not see it, I wish I had one of these things when I was ttc.
I was browsing the net and I found that there is a ovulation predictor called the donna predictor, rather than explain I thought I would just put the web site down http://www.thedonna.com/FAQ.html I don't know if it is only available in the the US but it does make interesting reading.
Regards
PP
