ok, so this is a weird question. i've always washed myself with soap, inside and outside of my nether region. i'm wondering if this is causing me to have a lack of CM. i'm wondering if i should change the way that i wash myself.
what does everyone else do?

I see you're on Clomid...that is much more likely the cause of your lack of CM (CM is produced way up by the cervix...I'm guess you're not washing THAT much inside!!). Anyway, a very common s/e of Clomid is that it dries up your CM. There are lots of different suggestions on how to deal with that, but what worked for me (and many, many, many others) is using the internal moisturizer Pre-Seed (www.preseed.com). It is designed to mimic fertile CM and (if used as directed) is deposited right up by your cervix (like CM would be if you had it).
There are two camps on the soap issue, but for the most part as long as you're not actually cleaning *inside* your vagina (= bad), if you feel cleaner or are at least not irritated by using it on your labia (as the skin is rather sensitive), it won't cause any harm.
I think the previous post about your medication is the a more likely culprit.
Just adding to the other comments...have you tried EPO for increased CM? It's supposed to work.
And I've always read 'water only' down there. I use a mild soap (but never inside).

i had problems for years with itchiness down there. my entire life actually. i thought that was how it was. i didn't know that it was caused by my soap. i went camping and brought doc bronners liquid soap to use. the itching went away.
so i did some research. the issues with soap are perfumes and ph. being mucus membranes, the skin in the vaginal area is very sensitive to perfumes. the vaginal area is also supposed to be slightly acidic. as most soaps are kind of basic, this can lead to all sorts of problems, bacterial and yeast infections for instance. so, i changed my soap.
for the best cleansing liquid, i make my own. i use 2/3 water to 1/3 doc bronners liquid peppermint soap in a small squirt bottle. to this i add a capful of apple cider vinegar to adjust the ph. it works really well. and no...you don't smell vinegary afterward.
if you don't want to go to all that trouble, doc bronners peppermint bar soap works well too.
i just find that the doc bronners soaps aren't irritating to the flesh down there and don't cause me to be itchy. they also made me smell better.
but, to answer your question, no it shouldn't affect your cm at all. that's coming from deep inside and shouldn't be changed by what you do on the outside.
thanks for all the info ladies. i guess i am not to answer the question about going up inside, i dont go far. just right inside. but you have all convinced me otherwise! i know i've read that you weren't supposed to, but i've always done it and i've never had any problems before.
i appreciate everything said and i have changed my ways!

Soap is used to remove grease, you dont need it on the pink parts, just on the hair and anus if you want. I squat down so all folds are open and aim the shower at all nether regions. It works well, just water.
since having a really really...did I mention really... bad reaction to soap down there when i was in egypt backpacking I have been scared to use soap down there so now i've found just mild soap and water and rinsing well is the key

First of all, the clomid can do that to your CM- you should really talk to your doctor about this... especially if it started happening when you got on the Clomid. Your doctor can do a pots-coital test to figure out if your CM is where it should be.
I also have always read to just do water down there... I've always been sensitive, so anything more than water causes major irritation.

I use soap. I mean, you can't get it too far up or it will burn like hell, but yeah, I soap it up. I don't think I would feel clean enough if I only did the outside.
