Wink Personal Opinions/Experiences w/ Supplements Please!!

Hi Ladies,

I wanted to start a thread posing the question--what vitamin/mineral/herbal supplements have helped manage your PCOS symptoms best? And which supplements have helped with what in your opinion specifically? I think everyone's feedback is sooo important with all the conflicting/vast amount of PCOS info out there!! Thanks!!!

Vitex (Chasteberry) was a miracle herb for me.

Given the only symptoms I really experience intensely are absent periods & cysts. It gave me my first AF in 5 months and I had one every month after that right on time while taking it!

I also take Saw Palmetto for its anti-androgen effects and ground flax seed meal for the same reason. =)

tlcrowe, how long were you on Vitex before it regulated your cycle? I was not impressed with the side effects of Clomid which made it very difficult for me to determine exactly when I ovulated, and am thinking of trying Vitex. Metformin has not worked to make me ovulate more often. Between January and September I only ovulated once naturally.

Within 2 weeks of taking Vitex, I started AF. That is really quick for it to take effect, so it may be a coincidence but I like to think otherwise. I continued to take it and for the next three months I still had regular periods, so it was really consistent.

I believe that it's ability to increase progesterone was really all my body needed to kick-start my cycles. However, I do not know if they were ovulatory cycles or not. I tried to chart temps to determine if and when I was ovulating but my basal temp. naturally runs way too sporadically to tell.

I had to stop taking the vitex since some bloodwork was being done, but I plan to start it up again asap.
