I have been looking for a 3rd biblical name for this 3rd little boy of mine (my older 2 are Noah & Isaiah).

I am having a hard time... my brother & sil took the name Gabriel, which I love. Our last name starts with "S" so even though I love Samuel, it sounds kinda hissy (think Sammy Sosa). Dh refuses to consider Elijah. And I want something a bit less "old school" or traditional than James, Mark, Luke, Matthew, etc.

So I've seen the name Levi on biblical name lists... what do you think?
Dh & I actually agree on it, which is huge.

I heard that Matthew McConaughay named his son Levi, but other than that I don't know any of Levis (which I kinda like... as there are Noahs everywhere & I feel bad for ds #1).

My Mom is being REALLY harsh, she hates the name Levi, she says he'll be made fun of & that she'll be ashamed to tell her friends her new grandson's name

My friends all say they like it.

I've also been told that it's a super-Jewish name (which we are not). Not sure if this is here nor there.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Luke! I dont like Levi, I just always think of jeans. Luke to me doesnt sound old for some reason, it sounds 'cool'. BUT!!! You name your baby what you like. Your mom will get used to it. Names tend to eventually fit the baby anyway. My sister named her daughter Hutson...its grown on her.

I like Levi. I think it's distinguished. Also like: Micah, Caleb, Joshua, Zacharias (Zach), Jacob, Joseph....lots of good choices.

My friend is naming her boy Levi and also my nephew is named Levi. I think I did hear that it was a Jewish name, not sure....the ones I know aren't Jewish. I like Micah too.

I like Levi as well. DS2 has a Levi in his daycare class. I never thought of it as an embarassing name. I think it's cute. I'm sorry your mom is being difficult.

One of my really good friends just had her 2nd boy. She and her DH wanted another biblical name, her 1st DS is Noah. They went with Kolbe which I didn't know was in the bible (lot of good 12 years of Catholic school did me huh?).

It sucks you mom has told you her feelings, otherwise I use the name for sure.

Congrats on the 3rd boy!! I always wanted 3 boys and haven't been able to convince DH for a 4th baby.

I'm not a fan of the name Luke, plus my hubby has a good friend named Luke. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I do really like Caleb, Joshua, Zachary & Jacob, but there are SO many of them around here.

Micah is cool, but I think he'd get Mike, which is so played out (no offense to anyone!) The same would happen with Joseph (he'd get Joe... I want something a bit more original).

hey bethany i love the name levi my best freind named her baby levi and i know a lil boy named levi that lives by me ... it is a really popular name right now as far as mom gos it is her grandson maybe u can let her help in the choosing of his middle name just give her a few to choose from that you really like ...just a idea to make her feel included ...

This sounds all too familiar to me. I went through the exact same thing with my mom. She basically said that same things as yours. But here's the important thing, you and your DH agree on the name and it's YOUR son. Don't let other people influence you and your choice. It's your child.

DH and I chose Hugo to be our son's name and my mom flipped out!! She claimed he'd get made fun of of it...thinking people would call him 'Baby Huey'. It was completely irrational of her an she was just p'oed that she didn't have control of that part of my life (another story...).

Levi is a great name and would sound really nice with your older DS's names. The fact that you and DH agree on it is important. Your mom will deal with and learn to accept it. GL!

I'm not a big fan of the name. Everyone i know who is named Levi has been Jewish so i automatically think its a jewish name. I'm not not crazy about the name but its you who has to like it. I like the names the other ladies picked out on here also. Remember, there will always be people who arent crazy about the name you picked out. I am going through the same thing with the name we picked out for our Daughter...people think she will be called Phil or Philly but we are going to call her Mena for short. I say tough noogies to your mom and she'll just have to get used to it

just FYI all names that are biblical (i.e. christian old testament - including noah and isaiah) are jewish names. I like levi, and also caleb, benjamin, jacob, jonah, zachary, josiah.... etc.

I think you should name him whatever you want cause he's your boy.
