Default Pg and gluc

I'm on 1500mg of gluc XR and just found out I'm pg.... 2 weeks. My Dr. told me to stop taking the gluc. I want to continue it bc I've heard all good things about being on it for the first 13 weeks. I have more than enough pills to take me through those weeks. I know it's bad to go against Dr, but I don't know what the right thing to do is. I so don't want M/c again!!>>

Any help?

My advice is to take it. I m/c after my doctor recommended stopping it...and this is after I saw a healthy baby with a strong heartbeat...

If I EVER get pregnant again...I won't stop it.

My doctor even admitted that when he gave that advice, that there weren't studies suggesting that continuing the Met helped to prevent M/C....

I called them back and asked them again, bringing up the fact that met can help lower chances of m/c. My nurse said they recommend stopping it for all their patients. I'm going with the "recommend" part and am continuing it for at least the first 13 weeks....

Thanks!!

My Dh and I have made the same decision. If we have #3, we're staying on the met. There are a bunch of studies and articles on met and pregnancy here if you'd like to do some more reading:

FAQ About Metformin

Congratulations on your pregnancy and all the best!!

Are you staying on for your whole pregnancy or just the 1st trimester?

IMHO, I will stay on the Met for the whole pregnancy. Of course the studies are still in the preliminary stages, but I don't think there has been any proof of birth defects in babies born to mothers who remained on Met throughout their pregnancy. I believe it even reduces your chances of developing gestational diabetes.

Do a little research, and make a decision that is right for you.

...and congrats, by the way.

Angela,
Congratulations, and I wish you the best of luck with this one! I can't imagine a loss, and I don't like to see it among so many cysters!! You should trust your instincts and possibly even find another doctor who sounds more like how you feel about things. My RE and consulting OB both agreed with me that it would be a mistake to go off metformin. I'm staying on it the whole time. The pregnancy forum has a lot of discussion about this issue. My RE said, "There has been no proof of ANY abnormality in the fetus due to metformin." You wouldn't want to go against that doctor, right?? Since the opinions differ, you have to use your own judgement.
See you on the pg forum,
Sheri
