I HAVE HAD PCOS FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS NOW. I HAVE BEEN ON LOW CARB DIETS, METFORMIN, SPIRONLACTONE, MANY HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS, AND MANY HORMONAL TREATMENTS.
RECENTLY I WAS SO FED UP WITH MY WEIGHT GAIN THAT I TRIED A FRIENDS PHENTERMINE. I KNOW THIS IS A DANGEROUS DRUG, BUT I WAS VERY DEPRESSED AND EXTREMELY DESPERATE FOR A CHANGE. WHAT HAPPENED WAS UNREMARKABLE. I CAN TELL YOU THAT MY PCOS SYMPTOMS DISAPPEARED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. I WAKE UP FEELING REFRESHED NOT TIRED. I NO LONGER HAVE JOINT PAIN. I AM FOCUSED, I HAVE "NORMAL" ENERGY, I HAVE A SEX DRIVE AGAIN. I HAVE NOT HAD THE SEVERE MOOD SWINGS THAT I EXPERIENCE REGULARLY. I HAVE NOT BEEN DEPRESSED. I HAVE HAD SOME WEIGHT LOSS.
ALL OF THIS IS GREAT, BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT PHENTERMINE CAN BE DANGEROUS. I AM WRITING BECAUSE I WANT TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE ELSE HAS EVER TRIED THIS MEDICATION. I AM HOPING TO SOMEHOW FIND THE COMPONENT OF PHENTERMINE THAT IS CHANGING ME AND MAYBE FIND IT IN A LESS HARMFUL DRUG. I SPOKE WITH MY DOCTOR WHO IS LESS THAN HAPPY THAT I TRIED THIS ON MY OWN, BUT WHO IS INTRIGUED AT THE RESULTS I HAVE EXPERIENCED. HE WOULD NEVER PRESCRIBE PHENTERMINE FOR ME, BUT HE WILLING TO INVESTIGATE. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO?
THANKS

I don't think phentermine is all that dangerous a drug. Well, the dosage can make that statement change, of course, but at regulated dosages it isn't "too" dangerous. I was on 37.5 mg. dosage once a day for awhile -a year and a half - along with prozac. I was seeing a doctor who believed in low carbing while on this drug combination. There actually is a book written on this combination. I wasn't depressed, but this drug Prozac was used to counteract the drop in your seratonin while on low carb diets. I had tons of energy and did quite well, losing 35 pounds rather "easily." Phentermine is a drug that you develop a tolerance to, and you have to increase the dosage over time. I eventually tired of the monthly doctor visits (at $150 each) and gave up the combination on my own. And promptly gained all the weight back. My family physician thought I was doing well with the drugs, and didn't see a problem with my continuing on it. I sort of wish I had! Good luck ~~Amy K.
