Question Physical symptomes of I/R?????help

Okay i've got two questions i'm hoping someone can help me out with. One what is the test done for I/R? the second question is does anyone know the physical symptomes of I/R? According to my endo dr ( whom i'm not to much in to trusting at this point do to his recommendation for a 1200 cal diet 3 meals a day, no snack and i'm diabetic not a good idea ) says that the dark skin patches in skin folds, and around my neck are physical symptomes of I/R diabetes. The only diabetic test i've had done is the hemoglobin A1C test and a fasting glucose test nothing else.

If anyone could help i would really apprisate it.

blessed be

There are many symptoms of IR, not everyone has each and everyone. Some of them are:

1. Fatigue
2. High blood pressure
3. sleepiness
3. excessive facial hair /body hair
4. dark rings around neck
5. Increased/unexplained weight gain, especially stomach area
6. High Cholesterol
7. Low blood sugars.
8. unexplained infertility
9. skin tags,
10. loss of hair....I'm sure i'm forgetting some of them...

The doctor should do a full b/w to rule out other things in determining IR. IR w/PCOS can mask other things as well. The usually test ordered in determining IR, would be Glucose, LDL/HDL/tricglycerides (total cholesterol workup), Lipid profile, Insulin. hs-CRP, Iron levels..HTH

Okay here the scarry thing about that, All of those things we tested for. The tri's were high, the bad cholestrol was high, I've had the dark skin patches and ring around my neck for years. I mean from the time i was a kid. The b/p thing heres something funny, When i check it at my home. with my cuff and my steph it's high last time i did it it was 140/100, at the endo's office it was 140/104, at my gerneral dr's office it was 120/84 and sometimes lower then that, I am sleepy quite often. I've had the unexplained weight gain in my abdomone for years, that has been going on sence i was a kid, Ive got the issue with hair, in place it doens't belong and place it shouldn't be coming out of , and those wonderful little things called skin tags.

Yet the endo dr can't confirm the diagnoses of PCOS. I've given more blood in the last two times to the lab then i normally do in a year..........

I've heard that they will do an Oral Glucose Test to check for I/R and it's recommened that the dr's pay extra close attention to the second hour test. Can anyone confirm or denie that? My regular dr doesn't know much about pcos so he's been sending me out to people who do. So he's kinda learning from me.

bless be

If you're already a confirmed Type II Diabetic, then there's no sense in testing for insulin resistance. IR is merely "pre-diabetes", a lesser form of what you've already got. In other words, you ARE insulin resistant, to the extreme point where you now have diabetes. Presumably you had IR for a long time before the beta cells in your pancreas gave out and the dark skin patches, called Acanthosis Nigricans, are a symptom of that.

What I would honestly do is find an Endocrinologist who specializes in Type II Diabetes and get that under control, if it isn't already. Once you get that stabalized, you'll probably see an improvement in your PCOS symptoms. It would be very nice to get a doc who also knows about PCOS but since PCOS originates with blood sugar/insulin problems, getting that taken care of is the first step.

Good luck to you! It sounds like you've had a very frustrating journey so far and I wish you only the best. Your health is definitely worth it!

Yes actually i was told about 3 yrs ago i was pre diabetic. And told to lose weight. Even then i had the Acanthosis Nigricans. It's just been in the past 2 yrs that it's gotten really bad around my neck. But it seems that i'm not finding anyone who is willing to help me treat the diabetes.

My endo dr and i arn't seeing eye to eye right now i feel like he's not really there to help me. I was told that he couldn't confirm the diagnoses of PCOS, which i had the ultrasound done, which showed cyst on my left ovary in the string of pearls.

So would finding a Reproductive Endo crinologist who specializes in PCOS ( evil letters together )help me out at all with this or not?

I'm honestly beyond flustrated at this point. 10 yrs of unnormal periods is insane. And yet no one can give me anything except put me on pills constantly..........

blessed be
