Glad I found this info.

videos sound great to get but I have a question though...

there's this palce here called Tan and Tone America. It has these machines that you use to exercise. It's basically you moving against the machine - has several different workouts (inner thigh, upper arms, lower arms, etc), would this be considered more aerobic or strength training - does anyone know what I am talking about??

I think I would like it better than the videos right now, since just having a baby and having a 4 yr old, I think I woud like having that moment to myself and being around other adults! But definetly having the videos would be great since I am a SAHM!

thanks for the article..........

It would be considered a waste of money

Check into some local gyms to see if any offer class (both aerobic and strength training). that will be good for being around people...

I've been lifting weights for 20 years and quit 6 mo. ago because I'm one of the few that can put on major muscle, which I already have. I miss it. I've been working out most my life and always had a very healthy, clean diet...but for whatever reason, God only knows...I started putting on major weight/fat. I run, run stairs, jump rope. Hope to get back into weights. I have only dropped 10 lbs. since I was put on Met. 2 mo. ago. I have about 36 to lose. This is definately the screwiest thing I have ever experienced in my life.

That makes so much sense! I was wondering why it was so much easier to lose weight with weight training than with just diet and cardio. I've been lifting weights already, and it really works!
Thanks Kat!

Has anyone tried the 5 factor exercise plan? I just started it and it has really helped my energy. It focuses more on weight training(and it gives tips for women so they do not bulk up.

I think it is because when you lift weights, your body continues to burn calories thru the day(because your muscles continue to build)

Actually, it's because muscle takes more calories to exist! When you put on muscle, that muscle requires more energy and calories to be on your body than fat does. So the more muscle you have on your body, the more calories you will burn just sitting in a chair.

Your Dr. is definitely the best bet here for advice. I'm insulin resistant but not diabetic but it's still really hard for me to lose weight. However, last year when I got married, I was able to drop 15 pounds. I counted calories and strength trained.

You need protein to help you with the weak feeling. Some good things that help regulate your blood sugar is nuts (almonds, walnuts), cinnamon, and FIBER! Fiber is very important. I ate Kashi for breakfast, almonds for a snack, double fiber bread, and even put Fibersure in my water.

Make sure you don't go more than 3 hours without eating in order to keep your blood sugar on an even level. That's very important. Best of luck to you!

This explains why I drop more weight with weights. I was frustrated when I hit a plateau last year and DH said Cardio is the only thing that burns fat (in average regular people LOL) but I am still plateaued a year later w/ 2 hours a day 5 days a week of cardio, so I'm definitely going back to the weights!
Thanks one and all!

I started lifting from day 1 when I began my first weight loss attempt and I will tell you what, it makes a HUGE difference. We women do not bulk up as easily as men do unless we take supplements that allow us to bulk up. I love lifting plus the way people look at me when I have on a sleeveless top and they see my shoulder arm definition is priceless.

I started out weighing 246 and wore a woman's plus 22/24. Now I weigh 215 and can wear a misses 14/16. The strength training is what got me there. Great post Kat!!!

I have been strength training, I stopped a few months back when the pain of my bad teeth (every time I exerted effort, shooting pains) I now have had all my bad teeth pulled and the sites have healed. I have eased back into excerise using the weights in the pool, but I want to progess to the free weights, I was using machines months ago, but now I think I need to be really serious, anybody using free weights at the gym... need pointers!!!

Good advice, I think I am going to hire a trainer to kick start my weight-loss again. I lost 30 pounds but then it just stopped and now I have gained a few pounds back. Time to ramp up that strength training!!!
